DESCRIPTION

Even after practicing meditation for several years, evils like greed, lust, anger, envy, illusion, etc. continue to plague the mind. Then what is the benefit of such a practice of meditation if it does not lead to the elevation of your soul? Most meditation techniques today do not address an important issue of the purification of mind. Roop Dhyan Meditation is a unique technique based on the knowledge of ancient Scriptures which teaches to fix the mind on a 'Pure Object'. By fixing the mind on pure object the mind also becomes pure.

THREE MODES OF MATERIAL ENERGY

Scriptures inform that material energy (Maya) which is the source of the entire material creation, consists of three modes or gunas:

• Mode of goodness or sattva guna• Mode of passion or rajo guna• Mode of ignorance or tamo guna

UNDERSTAND THE PATTERN OF THOUGHTS

Throughout the day our thoughts fluctuate from one mode of material energy to another:

• Mode of goodness: Kind, content, peaceful, helpful

• Mode of passion: Passionate, ambitious• Mode of ignorance: Angry, lazy, resentful, violent

MIND AND MATERIAL ENERGY

• Since the mind is also made of material energy (Maya), these three modes exist in the mind as well.

• Depending upon our environment and where we focus our thoughts, one of the guṇas becomes prominent and our mind takes on that quality.

HOW CAN WE CONQUER THE MIND?

If we truly wish to conquer the mind and free ourselves from all its defects like greed, anger, lust, etc, it can be

done only if we conquer Maya.

WHO CAN CONQUER MAYA?

Maya is energy of God. If someone conquers Maya, it means that person has conquered God himself. No one can conquer God, and hence,

no one can conquer Maya.

CAN’T MEDITATION HELP?

People strive through different meditation

techniques to tame their mind, but nothing seems to give them a complete benefit. The defects of

anger, greed and lust still continue to plague the

mind.

WHY MOST MEDITATION TECHNIQUES CAN’T HELP?

The reason is that all meditation techniques do not address the issue of purification of the mind.

As long as lust, greed, anger, envy, illusion, etc. reside in our mind, these forces destroy whatever concentration was

gained. It becomes vitally important to understand how to purify the mind.Visit: jkyog.org I facebook.com/Swami.Mukundananda

WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

• To cleanse the mind, we must fix it on an object of meditation that is itself pure. The material realm is dominated by three modes of material nature and if the object of meditation is material it cannot purify the mind.

• We must fix it in the Divine Realm.

DIVINE REALM

Scriptures tell that beyond this material realm, is the Divine realm of God, His Names, Forms, Virtues, Abodes, Pastimes and Saints. If we fix our mind

anywhere in this area, it will become pure.Visit: jkyog.org I facebook.com/Swami.Mukundananda

“If we learn to meditate on the image of God, we can carry His deity in the temple of the

mind, wherever we go. This is Roop-dhyan meditation. God has unlimited forms. This includes His image that we make

in our mind. Meditating on that image increases our devotion”.
