MAKING SENSE OF TRAGEDY Tragedy seems to happen so randomly,

making our world a very scary place. “But why?” We expect order in life

because God orders His world (Gen. 8:22; I Cor. 14:33).We surround ourselves with clocks and

calendars.It doesn’t always go as planned, does it?

“What if?”: We place blame upon ourselves.A need to strengthen the roots of our

faith.James 1:2-8: Trials purify our faith.

MAKING SENSE OF TRAGEDY Job: A story of prosperity and virtue.

Behind human eyes, a confrontation over Job’s faithfulness to God.

Job 1:8-12; 38:1-4, 9-12; 40:1-4; 42:1-3.

Job’s perspective changed when he came to know God.

Joseph: A story of blessing and betrayal.There is a story within a story.God’s providence was at work to bring

about a higher purpose (Gen. 50:20).

MAKING SENSE OF TRAGEDY

These stories show us that our lives fit into a holy plan beyond what our minds can comprehend.

Rom. 8:18, 28: One bad experience can set in motion a chain of good events.

Ultimately, God triumphs over evil.Two truths: Suffering is part of the

freedom of choice, and it is no respecter of persons (Matt. 5:45; II Tim. 3:12).

MAKING SENSE OF TRAGEDY God does not promise us deliverance from

persecution but deliverance through it. Psalm 18:6: “In my distress, I called upon

the Lord, and cried to my God.” A better question might be, “Why not me?” Psalm 91:1-8: A psalm of trust. If we can’t handle the simple day-to-day

obstacles, how do we think we’ll handle the big stuff?

God will work out all things for good—if we trust Him.

THE PLAN OF SALVATION Hear (Romans 1:16; 10:14, 17) Believe (John 8:24; Mark 16:16;

Hebrews 11:6) Repent (Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30) Confess (Romans 10:9-10; Matthew

10:32-33) Be baptized (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Mark

16:16) Live faithfully (Revelation 2:10;

Matthew 6:33; Romans 12:1-2; I Corinthians 15:58)
