2014 PRESS KIT
The 2014 Called to Serve: Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) is a national, Christian book
tour with opportunities for Christian book lovers to interact face-to-face with Christian fiction and
non-fictions authors via scheduled Tour stops across the United States. Additionally, Christian
Authors on Tour (CAOT) introduces Christian book lovers to a wide variety of Christian fiction
and non-fiction authors via the Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) Blog Talk Radio Show
(www.blogtalkradio.com/christianauthorsontour) which airs LIVE every Friday at 2 p.m. (ET).
In 2014, Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) is scheduled to host the following five Christian book
tour stops:
Glassboro, NJ (May 2-3, 2014) – Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) kicked off its first
Tour stop in Glassboro, NJ at the Stay Focused Writer’s Retreat.
Harlem, NY (July 12, 2013) - CAOT will host its 2nd Tour stop in Harlem, NY at the 16th
Anniversary of the Harlem Book Fair.
Timonium, MD (August 16, 2014) - CAOT will host its 3rd Tour stop in Timonium, MD at
the 5th Annual African American Author’s Expo.
Savannah, GA (October 18, 2014) - CAOT will host its 4th Tour stop in Savannah, GA as
part of the Christian Book Lovers’ Fellowship.
Baltimore, MD (December 13, 2014) - CAOT will host its 5th and final Tour stop in
Baltimore, MD at the 2014 Christian Writer’s Literary Festival.
The 2014 Called to Serve: Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) includes dozens of Christian
fiction and non-fiction authors from across the United States who are on FIRE for God and
committed to using writing as a tool for Christian ministry. To interview participating authors,
please contact them directly. See pages 8 – 33 for more details regarding participating authors as

At each scheduled Christian book tour stop, attendees have the opportunity to meet and greet
Christian authors and buy Christian books. Additionally, attendees have the opportunity to be a
vessel of God’s grace by supporting one of the following US-based mission outreaches:
Glassboro, NJ - Anointed Angels with A New Beginning, Inc. - On May 2-3, 2014 CAOT collected
NEW & UNOPENED sanitary napkins, tampons, bars of soap, tooth brushes, toothpaste,
mouthwash, dental floss, lotion, powder, socks, underwear, bras, hand sanitizer, make-up remover,
make-up kits, perfume, ladies' pajamas, ladies robes, hair combs, hair brushes, shampoo, hair
conditioner.
Harlem, NY – New York City Rescue Mission - On 7/12, the general public is invited to donate
NEW & UNOPENED personal hygiene items (i.e. bars of soap, men's socks, men's pajamas,
shaving cream, tooth brushes, tooth paste, shaving razors, mouthwash, lotion, hand sanitizer, Gold
Bond powder, medicated Vaseline, cologne, shampoo, conditioner, lip balm, dental floss) to the
Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) tent at the 2014 Harlem Book Fair. All donated items will be
delivered to homeless men and women at the New York City Rescue Mission. NOTE: Please
purchase personal sized items of personal hygiene products. If possible, please consider buying in
the bulk socks and pajamas in multiple sizes (i.e. small, medium, large or X-large).
Timonium, MD – Gabriel Network – On 8/16, the general public is invited to donate NEW &
UNOPENED household items (i.e. bars of soap, toilet paper, paper towels, bathroom cleaner,
kitchen cleaner, dishwasher detergent, soap powder, bleach, Lysol, Disinfectant Wipes, trash bags,
dish washing detergent, aluminum foil, Ziplock freezer bags, Ziplock sandwich bags, sponges, oven
cleaner, wood floor cleaner, cleaning cloths, twin bed mattress covers, twin bed sheets, twin bed
comforters, bed pillows) to the Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) table at the 5th Annual African
American Author's Expo. All donated items will be delivered to the maternity homes run by The
Gabriel Network, a nonprofit that supports women with crisis pregnancies.
Savannah, GA – Savannah Baptist Mission – On 10/18, the general public is invited to donate
NEW & UNOPENED food items for Savannah Baptist Center's food pantry ministry: canned
meats, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruits, and breakfast items such as pop tarts, granola/cereal bars,
grits and oatmeal. Since our literary event is in October, you should also consider bringing the
following NEW for their homeless clients and clothes closet clients: scarves, hats, gloves, thick
socks, chap stick, lip balm, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, bars of soap, high-efficiency laundry
detergent, etc..
Baltimore, MD – Karis Home & the Baltimore Rescue Mission – On 12/13, the general public is
invited to donate NEW & UNOPENED personal hygiene items (i.e. men's disposable razors,
shaving cream, hair shampoo, Q-tips, wash cloths, bath towels, women's undergarments of all sizes,
bars of soap, sanitary napkins, tampons, women's socks, men's socks, men's pajamas, women's
pajamas, mouthwash, toothpaste, tooth brushes, cologne, perfume, lotion, hand sanitizer, shampoo
& conditioner, lip balm, Gold Bond Powder, medicated Vaseline, shaving cream, shaving razors,
dental floss) to the registration table at the 2014 Christian Writer's Literary Festival. All donated
items will be delivered to homeless men and women at the Karis Home and The Baltimore Rescue
Mission. NOTE: Please purchase personal sized items of personal hygiene products. If possible,
please consider buying in bulk the socks and pajamas in multiple sizes (i.e. small, medium, large or
extra-large).

2014 Christian Book Tour Schedule
Christian Authors on Tour Stop #1 – Glassboro, NJ
The 2-Day Stay Focused Writers' Retreat sponsored by FOCUSED Plans, LLC. is the brainchild of
Deanna Davis Garlic. Visit www.stayfocusedwritersretreat.com for more details. Created for
writers, illustrators, editors, graphic designers, publishers, and artists with varying interests and
with an array of artistic genres, the Stay Focused Writers’ Retreat is an annual gathering of people
in Glassboro, NJ; it was the first scheduled tour stop for the 2014 Called to Serve: Christian
Authors on Tour (CAOT). Christian authors - Dr. Mary Washam, Mary Detweiler and T.C.
Spellen - showcased their books in the CAOT vending space. Pastor Janice Jenkins and Kisha
Morris were scheduled to appear, but both authors were unable to do so due to sickness.
Attendees purchased books from participating authors and donated NEW & UNOPENED
household products to Anointed Angels with a New Beginning for distribution to women escaping
domestic violence in NJ.

Christian Authors on Tour Stop #2 – Harlem, NY
The Harlem Book Fair is the brainchild of Max Rodriquez. 2014 marks the 16th anniversary of
the Harlem Book Fair. This year's festivities take place July 10 – 12, 2014 in Harlem, NY. Visit

The 5th Annual African American Author’s Expo is the brainchild of Patricia Johnson. 2014
marks the fifth anniversary of the African American Author’s Expo. Visit www.aaaexpo.net

Christian Authors on Tour Stop #4 – Christian Book Lover’s
Fellowship
The Christian Book Lovers’ Fellowship is the first literary event of its kind in Savannah, GA.
Scheduled October 18, 2014 at the Savannah Baptist Center, this literary event will connect
Christian book lovers with Christian authors from across the country for a day of Christian books
and fellowship!
Attendees will have the opportunity to stock up on lots of Christian books, meet & greet Christian
authors and able to share dialogue as part of several literary panel discussions. Attendees are also
invited to donate NEW and UNOPENED food items and clothing for distribution to the Savannah
Baptist Center. This literary event is the 4th stop of the 2014 Called to Serve: Christian Authors
on Tour (CAOT).

Christian Authors on Tour Stop #5 – 2014 Christian Writer’s
Literary Festival
The 2014 Christian Writer’s Literary Festival is the signature event of Christian Authors on Tour
(CAOT). 2014 marks the fourth year that CAOT has hosted this literary event in Baltimore, MD. Visit

place on December 13th at a new location: The Downtown Cultural Arts Center. This year’s keynote
speaker is Marlene Bagnull of Write His Answer.
Attendees should plan to meet dozens of Christian authors, purchase lots of Christian books, and enjoy
a Christian song writer’s workshop facilitated by Christian recording artist, Nicois. The general public
is invited to donate “NEW” personal hygiene items for homeless men and women at the Baltimore
Rescue Mission and the Karis Home. This literary event is the 5th and final Tour stop of the 2014 Called
to Serve: Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT).

Vincent "Vinnie" Adams is the author of Imitating the Fatherhood of God: A Single Dad's Guide
to Spiritual Parenting. A multi-instrumentalist, recording artist, Broadway performer, actor and
author, Vinnie and his wife, Betty, collectively share 38 years of parenting experience. Together,
they have served faithfully in the NYC Church of Christ as teachers, deacons and formerly co-
leaders of a single parents support group launched by members of the church called P.O.W.E.R.
(Parents Overcoming With Empowering Resources). On the fourth Friday of every month, Vincent
serves on the fourth Friday of every month as a 2014 Co-Host on the Christian Authors on Tour
(CAOT) Blog Talk Radio Show.

Minister Gloria Brown, a native of Hartford, CT, is a mother of six, a grandmother of thirty-two,
and a great-grandmother of eleven. Minister Brown has been married for thirty-one years to her
husband, Dr. H. Haines Brown. This preacher, songwriter, vocalist, motivational speaker and
author has received honors from the NAACP, Families in Crisis, Inc., AIDS Project Hartford,
Hartford Hospital and Hopewell Baptist Church. Minister Brown is a member of True Faith
Christian Ministries, where she is an Associate Minister, Worship Leader, and Chair of the
Women's Ministry. Minister Brown also leads a prison outreach ministry where she ministers
monthly at the York Women's Prison in Niantic, CT.

Minister Yelva Burley is a native of Baltimore, MD and the youngest of four daughters. In 2008,
Minister Yelva was licensed to preach the gospel under the leadership of Dr. Carl J. Solomon, pastor
of United Baptist Church. In addition to preaching the gospel, Minister Yelva has passionately
served the body of Christ in various capacities including Superintendent of Sunday School, Director
of Children and Youth, and most recently as the Director of Discipleship. Minister Yelva firmly
believes that "A man's gift makes room for him," (Proverbs 18:16a). She has led workshops and
presentations in the community, served on a community development board, and partnered with
organizations to improve the quality of education in Baltimore.
Minister Yelva earned a BA in Liberal Arts/Education and a MA in Education: Teacher
Leadership. The joys of Minister Yelva’s life are her two sons, Wendell Jr. and Wesley. Minister
Yelva published her first book, Speak Life: Devotions For Our Daughters, in 2010. This literary
work has been a source of empowerment and encouragement to girls and women around the

Lynn Calvin currently resides in Baltimore, MD. She has three grown daughters, Monique,
Khristina and D'Anita and four granddaughters, Taylor, Cierra, Shawntae, and Shawna. Lynn
attended Coppin State University, formerly Coppin State College, where she received a BS in
Biology. An active member of Providence Baptist Church, Lynn is the coordinator of the
Visionettes Liturgical Dance Ministry (children and youth between the ages of 3-18) and the
coordinator of the Ministry of Dance (adults between the ages of 19-50). She is also a Girl Scout
Leader, a member of Bible Study for Today's Living Sunday School class, a member of the Board
of Christian Education, a member of the Psalmodists of Praise Choir and a member of Restoration
Dance Ministry, a community based liturgical dance ministry which partners with the International
Liturgical Dance Fellowship.
Lynn loves the Lord and loves to teach children about the Lord. Her first book, I Have Two

Mitzi Lanee' is a wife, mother and author whose primary purpose in life is to love, heal, and restore
all women suffering from sexual abuse and rape. Mitzi expresses her knowledge and wisdom
through God's Word - The Holy Bible. Her first book, In Jesus Name, Please Don't Touch Me
There, tells how the Word of God helped Mitzi overcome the fear and shame of being a victim of
molestation. The book chronicles how God's love, healing, and restoration changed Mitzi’s life and
gave her the courage and strength to move forward in her assignment to help others.
The Founder and CEO of the Loved, Healed and Restored online newsletter, Mitzi serves as a 2014

Maxine Bigby Cunningham is an engaging, inspiring, and empowering speaker, workshop leader,
writer, author and mental health advocator. Maxine is creator of The Empowered Walking Steps to
Wellness, a proprietary system for overcoming impediments to mental and emotional wellbeing.

Mary Detweiler is a licensed Clinical Social Worker who worked as a psychotherapist in a variety
of inpatient and outpatient mental health settings for 27 years. Mary leads a Celebrate Recovery
ministry in Manheim, PA and is the author of three books: Therapy Isn’t Enough, When Religion
Isn’t Enough, and When the Glass Ceiling is Stained.
An adult child of an alcoholic, Mary grew up in a rigid, works-oriented religion. Her journey to
emotional and spiritual healing is the basis and the inspiration for her writing. She lives with her

Josie Dorlus was born in the beautiful island of Haiti. This woman of God, mother, and sister will
stop at nothing to spread the word of God to others especially other women in need. An avid lover
of singing and songwriting, Josie is also a lover of poetry and the spoken word. Although
motherhood is the most important role in her life, she never stopped writing songs or poetry. She
constantly aims to be a positive voice to others regarding matters of the heart.
Josie compiled her inner thoughts on love, life, and relationships into her first book, The Journey
of my Emotions, which was published by Tate Publishing. Presently, Josie lives in Florida. She
has been featured on Afrotainment TV - The Journey and Channel WKMG Local 6’s Making a

A native of Baltimore, MD, Demetria “Dee” Grissett is the author of In Sickness and In Health – A
Journalized Account of Coping with Multiple Myeloma. Growing up, Dee always loved to write,
but she never thought to write a book until after she was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a
cancer of the bone marrow and plasma cells. Dee’s goal for publishing this book is to share her
experiences in hope of helping and encouraging others who may be in the same or similar situation.
Keeping a journal was very therapeutic for Dee during her treatment process. It helped her cope
with her illness and other life-altering situations that she faced at the time.
Dee is a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and the illustrious Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority, Inc. She resides in Lumberton, NC with her husband and two sons.

Steven Haymon, Ed.D has over 40 years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist and consultant.
Having treated thousands of clients for issues including childhood disorders, marital and couple
counseling, family counseling, parent/child conflicts, veterans--PTSD, and chemical dependency,

author, mentor and speaker. A. Michele has served as a columnist for an internet magazine and as
the ghostwriter of a national newsletter.
As an essayist, her work has earned her thousands in scholarship awards and grants. Always one to
push the envelope, her use of idioms and archetypes distinguish her from her writing peers. Along

Pastor Kevin Wayne Johnson lives to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. His passion is reflected

Teresa E. Mack, a native of Baltimore, MD, works as a Senior Training Specialist at Johns Hopkins
University in Northern Baltimore County. Teresa is a graduate of the University of Baltimore and
an active member of The New Psalmist Baptist Church, where she serves on the New Member
Ministry and the Discipleship Ministry.
Teresa’s love for writing began at an early age and stems from her life experiences. Her intimate
conversations with God serve as the catalyst for her inspirational poetry. Teresa’s poetry has been
published in the Maryland Writers Association’s Newsletter and in Epitome Magazine, a national
Christian magazine. She recently published her first book, The InHer Me.

Leroy Mckenzie, Jr. is a native Baltimorean and a product of the Baltimore public and private
school systems. Leroy received his B.S. degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management from the
University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He is a proud member of the New Psalmist Baptist Church
where he serves as a part of the Honor Guard Ministry, and he is the former Executive Director of
the Black Writer’s Guild-PG Chapter. On the fourth Friday of the month, Leroy serves as a 2014
Co-Host on the Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) Blog Talk Radio Show.
Leroy is the President/Owner of JNF (Jesus Never Fails) Enterprises, a distribution, publishing and
business consulting firm. He has helped other authors to publish books, and he is the author of
several books including two books of poetry that were featured on a local gospel radio’s poetry
café. His signature work in print is the Building the 21st Century Company Book Series, a

Anna Renault is a 36-year cancer survivor of multiple types of cancer. Anna is blessed to have
survived a few other brushes with death. She credits having faith in God to help her through
whatever she is led to as the reason for her being able to keep a positive attitude.
A daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, Anna is the author of several books including Anna’s
Journey. Having retired from the Maryland State Department of Education’s Division of
Rehabilitation Services, Anna works part-time for the Baltimore County Public Library and

Sherika Sadler is an evangelist, author, poet, actress, public speaker, and veteran. Sherika served
eight years in the United States Army Reserve. A native of Norfolk, VA, Sherika is a graduate of
Norfolk State University and University of Maryland University College. In 2010, Sherika was
