LinkedIn II more than a resume.
LinkedIn II
LinkedIn II
Spend ten minutes a
day on LinkedIn. Look for new contacts, clients, continuously update your profile, share industry and business
news/information. Look at what others are doing online; share & engage.
Always aim to be visible & valuable; push yourself to become “Top-of-Mind.”
Be visible.
LinkedIn II
Be valuable. Become “top-of-mind.” Look to answer questions & fill the gap in the industry/field you are an
expert in.
Engage, share information, build your reputation, establish yourself as an expert and become a
credible source on your industry.
Develop your brand.
Your picture, summary, skills, connections & the content you
share are always woven together to paint of picture of you. Make
sure you control that picture.
LinkedIn II
What do you want to
be known for? What makes you great? Unique? Compelling?
Use this to help you develop your personal brand. (Remember: The
best companies use social media to share information & thought
leadership that is relevant to their network.)
LinkedIn II
LinkedIn II
Share relevant content
in your network.
Become that reputable source that people can trust. Think about it, most people use LinkedIn for
professional reasons: connect, stay up-to-speed on industry news & engagement; some are
actively looking for products and/or services. Only share information that is business/industry
relevant – this is not the place for a status update on what you ate for breakfast (that’s Twitter.)

LinkedIn II
Create your own content. Currently, LinkedIn only offers certain members the ability to post their own blog through the site.
However, this is not to say that you cannot create your own content, either through blog services
like Wordpress/blogger, or it can be as easy as opening up a word doc, creating your own opinion
piece on a topic, saving as a PDF and sharing as a status update. The point is to always be visible
and valuable.
LinkedIn II
LinkedIn Blog Some people have the ability to post, if you have the ability to post to LinkedIn via their blog
publishing service, try to keep your posts steady (your readers/followers will appreciate it.) Make
sure you take time to understand what type of information your audience is looking for. If you’re
the expert on a area or topic, you should be writing about that. Watch how people engage. And if
there is no engagement, try switching gears. There is no perfect formula. The most important
thing is to always work to bring value to the conversations happening on LinkedIn.
LinkedIn II
Join ‘Groups’.
If you’re most interested in using LinkedIn for professional development, or to establish yourself as
an expert in a certain area, start joining relevant groups & take part in conversations.
LinkedIn II
Clean up your home feed.
If your home feed is becoming a dumping ground for information you’re not interested in, click on
“all updates” and choose the sources you want to hear information from (you can even customize
it as well!) Remember that you can always control how often and the type of information that gets
pushed to you just using the settings within LinkedIn!
LinkedIn II Use
Buffer.
If your time is at a premium,
Buffer will allow you to schedule
your content for LinkedIn (and
other social media sites.) Visit
https://bufferapp.com
LinkedIn II Use bitly.
When sharing websites, use can use bitly for a couple of reasons. (1) it shortens the text so you
can get more information into your status/update/post and (2) it allows for you to see how many
clicks are on your links – a.k.a.: how many people are reading the stuff you post? This allows for
you to judge when and what to share.
LinkedIn II Use the LinkedIn CRM.
Too busy to reach out today?
No problem. Use the “how
you met” feature on
LinkedIn, and then set a
reminder” for a time to send
a message later on. You’ll
also see a place for notes
and “tag” as well. Tagging
allows you to tag as a
colleague, friend, classmate,
group member or partner.
LinkedIn II Have you logged out?
Remember that LinkedIn keeps you logged
in. So if you’ve been checking your profile
from a public computer, now is the time to
Log off! (Click Privacy & Settings Your
Active Sessions “See where you’re logged
in”)
Remember: Be transparent.
Be inclusive.
Be authentic.
Be relevant.
BE VISIBLE. BE VALUABLE.
LinkedIn II
People do business with people they know, like and trust.
