In October 2014 EIKEN will be celebrating its tenth anniversary, so it makes sense to lay down thestrategy to be followed in coming years. In the meantime, the work carried out by EIKEN’s membercompanies, based on internationalization and cooperation, will provide the necessary leverage tobroaden the cluster’s scope of action towards a creative and digital economy in order to cater forthe vast and growing ecosystem characterizing our sector globally.

Smart Culture. Europe’s culturaland creative industries

— EIKEN is dedicated to the creative and culture sector andaims at boosting its economic value and revitalizing hybridization activities in order to build acommon strategy with Europe for culture and creative industries.— A European consortium made up of the Nord-Pas de Calais region (France), the AutonomousCommunity of Madrid (Spain), West Midlands (UK), Siena (Italy), District of Sofia (Bulgaria),Brainport Eindhoven (the Netherlands), Central Denmark Region (Denmark) and Euskadi.— Target sectors: audiovisual, videogames and software, written media and publishing houses,advertising, cultural heritage, design, music and architecture.— A focus group held in 2013 with three-pronged personal interviews, companies from thedifferent sectors, academic and research centres and general, territorial and local administrationsfor doing sectorial SWOT analyses.— Euskadi led the Work Package and was the headquarters for the consortium’s officialmeeting in 2013.

— Israel. (February) Benchmarking and business mission to one of the countries which, in avery short time, has become one of the reference sectors for a highly internationalizedaudiovisual industry.— Ireland. (November) Benchmarking and business mission with particular attention given totax incentives, strategic alliances and transmedia experiences.— Singapore. (December) Benchmarking and business mission and attendance at the Asia TVForum providing access to the region’s audiovisual companies, and contact with Malaysia, Korea,Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China, among others.— MIPFORMATS. (April) Participation of the Basque Audiovisual in the official Panel ofconferences and international presentation of the Innova Basque Audiovisual initiative.— MIPTV (April) and MIPCOM (October). Own stand as a business area for Basque companiesunder the Basque Audiovisual brand.— Sunny Side of the Doc (June). Large Basque delegation at the La Rochelle DocumentaryMarket.

EIKEN actions

— Innova Basque Audiovisual. Action aimed atinternationalization and cooperation. Internationaljury and retention of rights. Seminar called"Formats and New Media" featuring Armoza (Israel)and The Wit (Switzerland). Individualadvisory service on formats.— Master class on Formats. "How to become

successful internationally". In 2013 Basque experts had the opportunity to access a majortraining initiative run by one of the most widely acknowledged experts in the format industry,Patty Geneste, President of FRAPA, Format Recognition and Protection Association.— Thematic Channel Cooperation Group. A pilot project promoted by EIKEN among a variety ofmember and non-member companies to learn about the different aspects of the business ofthematic channels in which monetization and the cooperation model have been critical.IP Broadcast. Cooperation Group Work aimed at revitalising and providing advisory services tomember and non-member companies which has given rise to a new company called NIRESTREAM,in order to offer an integral communication and broadcast service via the internet.— Gidoi Faktoria. Resource centre for tutoring audiovisual projects.— Quality. Intercluster collaboration (Gaia, Hegan, Aclima and EIKEN) with the presentation ofhybridisation projects according to sector and workshop, as well as a specific workshop on DesignThinking.— EikenTALENT (formerly EikenBANK). An initiative for generating employment by creating abridge between the sector’s companies and young talent which, in its 6th edition, the winingproject was "Cuadrilla busca cita" and 22 people benefited from grants, contracts and otherawards.

— EikenLEX. Online technical and legal advisory services (only for member companies) and legalsupport for companies involved in international co-productions.

— SICC-EIKEN. Decisive factor for competitive edge (only for member companies)

— Outlook Observatory. Monitoring all member companies with data on employment andturnover updated every six months.— Strategy and Liaising. Diagnosis and information seminars aimed at the sector.— EikenPRESS. A specific communication service for associated companies.— Talent Pool. Agile and dynamic access for identifying profiles.— F2F and Matchmakings. An organization with closed agendas for presenting projects andseeking collaboration opportunities.— Marketing. Participation with presentations and catalogues in all EIKEN’s public actions.
