Making Your Moving job Easier

Moving can be a stressful time, especially if you have a large house to pack up and move but there are ways that you can incorporate to make it easier and less stressful. One of the first things that you should do is start packing as soon as you know you are moving. Make a list and write down everything. Write the list in a spiral notebook and put it on a clipboard. This will make it easier to hang the clipboard in a central place so it will be quicker to find.

Before you start packing the first box, start a simple record keeping system. In the notebook, number your pages. When you pack a box, write a number on the box and the contents on the matching numbered page in your notebook. You do not have to write down everything that is packed into the box. For example, if it is a certain set of dishes or kitchen stuff, instead of writing kitchen stuff on the box, give a description of what is in the box. This will make it easier to find what you need.

You should also have a central area where you keep your list, boxes, packing tape, marking pens, and packed boxes so you will have what you need when packing. Keeping the packed boxes in the same area will eliminate having packed boxes all over the house. Make sure that you have plenty of supplies, including a lot of sturdy boxes, packing tape, and markers. You also need to make sure that you have filler to put in the boxes to keep things from moving around. You should have paper or bubble wrap to put breakables in. You should have some extra boxes on hand for last minute packing such as cleaning supplies, bedding, and clothing. If you use newspaper to wrap things, make sure that it is unprinted newsprint because printed newspaper could stain your stuff.

Try to find some wardrobe boxes, which are the tall boxes that you can use for lightweight bulky items like blankets, pillows, clothes that need to stay on hangers, and comforters. Check with a local moving company to see if you can purchase some of these type boxes. When packing any box make sure that they are not too heavy to lift. The boxes should be taped securely, especially on the bottom, so the boxes do not break open causing everything to spill to the ground.

If you are using professional movers you should put a color sticker on each box near the number and then put the same colored sticker on the door to each room in your new home. This way the movers would know which room to put the boxes.
