A Luton Foodbank User’s Story When 14-year-old Kenan’s father became seriously ill, he had to leave work and his mum was forced to give up work to look after him. The situation got worse week by week as they started using savings to pay their mortgage and bills. After several months they found themselves in a dire situation unable to afford food. Luton Foodbank gave the family enough emergency food to help them through their crisis. Kenan said ‘it was such a huge help and the people were really caring.’ He said that the food parcel helped them through such a testing time without it ‘it would have been difficult to manage.’ Receiving a food parcel and the advice from Citizen Advice Bureau at Luton Foodbank’s mobile distribution point helped his mum apply for benefits that she never knew she was entitled to. Once their benefits started Kenan and his school friends did a food collection at their school in order to help others who were struggling to afford food.
