ABOUT “IAF”

• Established on 8th October 1932 as auxiliary force under British empire

• first operation was in Wapiti Planes with one squadron

• Earlier known as the Royal Indian Air Force

• Prefix Royal added in 1945 for recognition in 2nd world war

• prefix Royal it was dropped when India became republic in 1950

• part of Indian armed forces

• under ministry of defense

• Airforce day is celebrated on 8th October

• IAF colors are navyblue,sky blue & white

• head quarters is in new Delhi

• Chief of Air Staff is Air Chief Marshal Norman Anil Kumar Browne

• Primary responsible for securing Indian airspace and conducting aerial warfare during conflict

• Operates from 47 Wings and 19 Forward Bases

• Consists 4th generation aircraft

• HAL- TEJAS only 4th generation indigenous aircraft

• TEJAS & RAFALE C replaces aging MIG-21 by 2014 -15

• Upgraded it’s Missile to Israel SPDER & indigenous Brahmos

• participant in united nation peacekeeping missions

• Celebrate its golden jubilee in 1982
