What happened?

• 1605 King James I was King of England.

• People didn't like him because of the way he treated Catholics.

• Guy Fawkes and a group of men decided to create a plan to blow up the Houses of Parliament with the King inside.

• Guy Fawkes put 36 barrels of gunpowder in the cellar of the Houses of Parliament.

What happened?

• A letter was sent to the King which warned him of the planned attack.

• The King found Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder in the cellar.

• He was arrested and tortured in the Tower of London until he confessed to trying to kill the King.
