The nutritional requirements and wild prey of the planktotrophic larval stage (phyllosoma) of P. cygnus were previously unknown.

Most valuable single species fishery in Australia

Results

毛顎類被取食的數量是其他種類飼料的 2-8 倍。毛顎類被取食速率隨著濃度上升而提高 。這些毛顎類和龍蝦幼生的酯質與酯肪酸組成變異極大,顯示他們應該生存於貧營養的大洋食物鏈,其生活環境之食物來源可能受到限制。持續取食毛顎類六天以上的龍蝦幼生,其酯肪酸組成有明顯改變,顯示其營養狀態的改善。

提供現今龍蝦養殖產業,餌料研發方面有了具體的方向。
