Six Principles For Extreme Productivity
Maran B
Comparative Advantage
▪ When it comes to what you do best or what a company needs, what the company
needs is more important.
▪ So don’t focus just on what you do best.
▪ You’re more likely to succeed if you look around and gauge how you can be most
useful.
▪ Spending too much time on operational details when it can be delegated will affect
your productivity.
▪ When delegating tasks or authority, it must be made sure that it is delegated to a
responsible person.
It’s Not The Time You Spend But The Result You Produce
▪ It may be necessary during a crisis to stay back to complete the job but other than
that success is measured by the results you produce and not the number of hours
you log.
▪ Focusing on results than the hours will create a balance between work and family.
▪ It will in turn boost up the productivity.
▪ More productivity in lesser hours can be achieved by quality work.
Think First, Read or Write Second
▪ Before reading any official document, take a moment to think and analyse what it is
about.
▪ With e-mails, First priority is to be given on which ones to be read first.
▪ Respond Immediately to important ones. It saves time than procrastinating.
▪ Draft an outline before you start writing what you want to write.
Prepare your Plan But Be Ready to Change it
▪ Have a very clear line of argument. But when your argument does not reach its
target be ready to change it accordingly.
▪ Prepare for the next day in advance.
▪ Write a schedule and jot down what you want to accomplish.
▪ Compose a list of task accordingly based on its priority.
▪ But be prepared to revise the schedule as the day progresses based on the
requirement.
▪ Try to keep one hour of the day open in order to accommodate new requirements
Let Others Own their Space
▪ Address the problem, share your views and receive inputs from subordinates too
rather than giving orders.
▪ Give them the freedom to disagree and voice out their opinions.
▪ Make sure the participants agree to their deliverables and fix a time limit.
▪ The boss’s role is to provide reports with resources, give them guidance.
Keep Things Short and Simple
▪ Try to complete any meeting in an hour or to the maximum of 90 minutes.
▪ The agenda of the meeting should always be discussed at the start to set a clear
understanding.
▪ Avoid using power points and try to involve active discussions.
