« A residence »…what are we talking about?

“We call residence the invitation to artists

in a place that offers them the means

and tools to achieve an artistic creation.”

Page 4: Résidences for the performing arts

Residencies in our way

• Stakeholders: artist(s); librarians; public; partner(s)• Spirit of collaboration• Artistic and cultural project• Precisely defined duration• A space and time for creation: an 85-seat auditorium for several weeks• Means for the artistic work: technical and logistic backup; financial support• Various public sessions (meetings, workshops, open rehearsals, performances, lectures, exhibitions…)

Our intuitions and questions… what do YOU think about it ?

By ranking as a creation place, the library becomes a

place of risk, of « disorder »,

experimentation, sensibility… A place that

sets the body as well as the intelligence in motion.

Is supporting artistic creation

the role of a library ?

As a librarian, one doesn’t always feel in

one’s own right handling artistic

creation.
