The Continuous degradation of the environment has evoked an alarming situation for the humanity.The impact we have on the environment today is making big difference on the world of future generations. Therefore its high time that rights steps should be taken in right direction to bestow a healthy environment for the generations to come.

HOW TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT

Saving the environment can be a difficult task, However it is not impossible. Every human being can contribute to preserve the environment by taking a few simple steps in their day to day lifestyle.Youth too have stepped forward to contribute actively to this cause.

AN INITIATIVE BY A YOUNGSTER

Shashank Agarwal, a young student from Amity

International School has contributed to save the environment in his own unique way. He has come up with an idea of making bricks using cow dung and straw dust.

His efforts have set an example for many other youngsters in the country. With his endeavor, he has successfully proved that age has nothing to do with doing your bit to save the environment.

BIRTH OF AN IDEA

Shashank learnt from his grand parents that in villages the houses were coated with the cow dung as it had a cooling effect and also acted as a mosquito repellent. Cow dung is also said to have anti bacterial qualities and serves as a disinfectant.He wondered for days if cow dung can still be used in some better ways and landed to the conclusion of making bricks using cow dung and straw dust.

WHY COW DUNG AND STRAW DUST

Cow dung is believed to have anti-bacterial qualities. It serves as disinfectant. It is also believed to be an excellent and inexpensive insulator. It is good for health, keep away insects, keep house cool in summers and warm in winters. It is an effort of how to best utilize natural material.

HOW ARE THESE BRICKS USEFUL

There are various advantages apprehended to this innovative initiative of Shashank Agarwal. The Bricks made by him will help the society ecologically up to great extent as these are. Besides these bricks are cost effective and are light weight which is an advantage at the time of earthquake, as quake impact is in proportionate with the weight of the structure.
