There are many great blog aggregators out there, but good places to start include StumbleUpon, NewsNow, Feedly and even Reddit.

SOCIAL SHARINGThere are a couple of elements to social media marketing that will help promote your blog, both on-site and off-site. Firstly, and most obvious, share your contentwith your Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and LinkedIn communities.

You also need to optimise your blog posts for sharing. Include highly visible social sharing links on all your blog posts, near the top and bottom of the article, or at theside.

If you have created a really good piece of content that mentions other brands, such as a “10 ten marketing tools” or “the 5 best suppliers in our niche” style article, tweet those businesses and let them know you mentioned them. They may retweet it to their targeted following.

OPTIMISE FOR SEARCHOrganic traffic is a great natural source of powerful clicks that don’t need promoting on a regular basis.

There are articles on the Fabric blob that receive well over 100 reads a month that were published nearly two years ago, so getting your article optimised for search isimportant.

Use Google Keyword Tool to find a search term regularly typed into Google that’s related to the article you want to write. Then, make sure you include that searchterm in your title, first paragraph, meta description, image alt tags and a few times in the article itself.

LINK TO OTHER BLOG POSTSThis wont increase the number of visitors to your site directly, but it will help increase pageviews and decrease bounce rate.

When you publish your articles, be sure to include links to other relevant content on your website. These links can be during the article and also at the end in a “otherarticles you may be interested in” section.

If the reader is engaged with the current article they are reading, they are likely to delve deeper into your blog to gain more knowledge.

Tip: Be sure to make these links “open in a new window” as it will help increase pageviews even more.

INCREASE THE DOMAIN AUTHORITY OF YOUR WEBSITEThis isn’t a quick fix but an important one. A key metric that suggests the power and authority of your website is domain authority (DA). Metrics like this suggest toGoogle whether or not your website should be ranked in your niche. If you have a new site or an older one with a low DA score, Google is less likely to rank yourcontent in organic search results.

Try and gain some more links to your website on a whole as this will increase the likelihood of Google placing your blog posts high in the SERPs.

SEND LINKS TO YOUR POSTPage authority is also a very important metric that Google measures. Like DA, the page authority statistics suggest how popular that individual post is, and the higherthe better.

If your articles are struggling to gain organic traffic, send a few links to the article. Google will follow these links, index your article and promote your post in searchresults.

Linkbuilding can be time consuming, so grab a few easy links from posting a few comments on related industry blogs.

CREATE A NEWSLETTERFabric have been generating a weekly newsletter now for over a year, and we have seen a huge number of clicks and also a few business enquiries off the back of it.

A newsletter is a great way to touch base with your customers and potential clients, and a good way to get them interested and engaged with your email is to includeyour great content.

EMAIL FOOTER LINKSIn any given day you could send anything from 10 to 100 emails, and for a large company the total number of messages sent can reach the thousands on a daily basis.

Often unthought of as a marketing tool, these 1,000 emails sent each day should be used to promote your blog!

Once again, this is a tactic we have been using for some time and it helps generate even more traffic to our blog.

USE ENTICING HEADLINESThere are really three stages to content marketing by using a blog. The first is creating the content, the second is getting it in front of people, and the third is gettingthem to click onto your site.

One of the major stumbling blocks is the link between stage two and three. Thousands of people may see your blog post on either social media, in a newsletter or inthe search results, but with content marketing becoming such a saturated market, why would they click on your link?

POST COMMENT

The solution is the headline. The title to your article has to be enticing, appeal to the potential reader on an emotional level, or hint towards great user benefits if theydo click.

This is one reason why ‘listicles’ like this very blog post you’re reading have become so popular. From the headline alone the reader knows they are going to get 10quick bits of information on how to get more blog readers, and that promise of more knowledge gets people engaging.

COMMENT ON OTHER BLOGS AND FORUMSThis tactic may sound a little time consuming, but it works a treat. If you’ve just written a blog post about 10 players Manchester United need to sign in January, findanother blog post online about the Red Devil’s transfer activity and post a comment with a link to your blog post.

Use a format like this one:

“Really interesting article! I agree that United need a new defender – I think all their fans do as well! I wrote a blog post about 10 possible January targets for Man Uhere if you want to give it a read… www.blogtitle.com/blogpost etc etc”

Readers of the blog will often scroll down and read some of the comments, and if your link is near the top, they will likely click it.

CONCLUSIONUpkeeping a blog and content marketing takes time and effort, and at first the results are not evident. But the more articles you post on a regular basis the betterchance you have of getting your content noticed, ranked in Google and shared on social media.
