DATING

Page 3: Real relationships vs virtual relationships

Introduction• Real relationships are when we know exactly who we are seeing and

what kind of person our partner is.• This is the more classic form of being in a relationship that’s had a

steady decline in the past few decades with the advent of internet. • Studies show that more adults prefer their kids to choose real-life

relationships over its virtual counterpart.• This happens due to ‘generation gap’.

Page 4: Real relationships vs virtual relationships

Pros and cons• Humans have some basic instincts that help them to judge another

person based on steady observation. This way of scrutiny isn’t possible over social media or dating sites. • Moreover when we date someone offline, we know who they really

are. A person dating someone online would never know if they are serious or just pretending.

Let’s suppose I am dating someone online. First off, I am not even sure if it’s actually a girl and not a boy with a girl’s dp. And what’s more, she could be dating lots of boys like me. Who knows!

Pros and cons continued… • There have been many cases in the past where the policemen used

Facebook to get hold of a criminal. The cops pretended to be women and arranged a date with the accused, and arrested him when he showed up.So, we see how the criminal thought he was dating a lady when he was actually dating a police officer. It is very easy to fake emotions online. Even if I am angry, I could just send a smiley to another person. There are a few exceptions though. Skype is better because you can see the other person in real time.

Pros and cons continued…But it’s not like online dating is all about faking things. It does come with its own advantages. If you are a shy person, you can be at ease when you are chatting. The reason is, you don’t have to confront that person to say something that you normally are scared to say. Online dating helps you to be bolder than you would normally be if you were dating the same person offline. This is a boon.

FRIENDSHIP

Page 8: Real relationships vs virtual relationships

IntroductionFriendship is something without which one can survive but cannot live.We all need friends in one form or the other to share our experiences and feelings like joy, sorrow etc. Not having friends makes a person socially awkward. To interact freely in public, a person needs to be in touch with other humans to constantly learn and develop the most basic necessity of a human being – to be able to communicate and share. Having friends eases it up for you.

Introduction continued…In the modern world, there are two ways one can make friends. 1. Online.2. Offline. This follows a similar pattern as ‘dating’ discussed in the previous section. Having ‘real’ friends is more beneficial as compared to having virtual friends. Nowadays, kids tend to have a lot of virtual friends, which includes people who they’ve never met.

Page 10: Real relationships vs virtual relationships

Pros and consIn terms of sharing of thoughts and communicating, both forms of friendship are equally good. The problem arises when it comes to interacting in public. If a person is used to chatting with people online more often, chances are, that he will not be able to communicate freely with people in public. This problem arises as a result of constantly being in touch with the virtual world which makes one lose out on improving their speaking skills. Confronting a person is very different from texting someone online. Having virtual friends has made humans lose one of their basic characteristics – the art of communicating face to face. The advent of technology has left us communicating with each other online.

Pros and cons continued…But actually, people only communicate with a bunch of silicon chips and machines. Virtual friendship isn’t that bad when it comes to advises. When a person is in need of a good advice, both real and virtual friends score equally. Another advantage of having real friends is, you know who you have befriended. Also, when a person has lots of virtual friends and is very social, he tends to become lonely in the real world.

Page 12: Real relationships vs virtual relationships

Pros and cons continued…The person himself is responsible for this loneliness. Let us take my example. I have over 1400 friends on Facebook. And personally, having 40 real friends is better than having over a 1000 virtual friends. The thing is, when we make real friends, we tend to sort them on the basis of their characteristics and our perception of them. If I have 40 real friends, 30 of them would be like me. But when I make virtual friends, I am actually adding every type of person to my friend list.

CONCLUSION

In our view, real relationships give us happiness in the long term. Virtual relationships have their pros, but the level of satisfaction yielded by them is temporary. Virtual relationship may result in a completely different outcome than what a person expects. Also, it depends from person to person about what type of relationship they’re in need of. Neither of them are perfect.
