DESCRIPTION

The Georgian Bay - Collingwood - Severn - Barrie region of Ontario is a vacationers paradise located only and hour and half or so from the Metropolis of Toronto. As a result there are numerous cottage areas along the shores of Georgian Bay and others of the many lakes in the area, as well as holiday resorts to suit the needs and wants of the millions of visitors who flock there year round. The natural beauty, diversity and ruggedness of the terrain attracts attention as does the historical significance of the area. Georgian Bay is covers approximately 15,000 square kilometres (5,800 sq mi), making it nearly 80% as large as Lake Ontario. The granite rock formations and windswept Eastern White Pine are characteristic of the islands and much of the shoreline of the bay. The rugged beauty of the area inspired landscapes by artists of the Group of Seven. Let's do a quick review of some of the family vacation destinations in the area with which I am familiar. The Royal Harbour Resort The Royal Harbour Resort is a 4 season resort located on beautiful Georgian Bay amongst a natural harbour. Another nearby destination you must check put is the Georgian Manor Resort and Country Club just a sort distance from Collongwood. It too is located on the Niagara Escarpment and has an abundance of wildlife for the nature lovers as well as four season activities such as hiking, biking, snowmobileing, dog sledding and of course skiing. One of the more diverse and luxurious resorts in the area is Carriage Ridge Resort located in the beautiful ski country area in Oro Medonte close to Barrie. Carriage Ridge Resort offers excellent service and facilities which includes superb 18-hole golf course, largest ski hills in Barrie, as well as spa and fine dining facilities.
