FAILURE FRANCISCO&SUCCESS SALLYTHE INNER MIND CHATTER OF
10 WAYSSuccessful Entrepreneurs And “Wantrepreneurs”
Think Differently About Success
REVEALED & CONTRASTED
AFTER CLIMBING THE RANKS IN THE CORPORATE WORLD FOR MANY YEARS, “SUCCESS SALLY” IS READY FOR A NEW CHALLENGE: TO START HER OWN INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING FRANCHISE.
Sally simply loves rock climbing, and is ready to ditch the corporate ladder for a different type of obstacle course. This is the first time she’s done something like this, but is confident she can pull it off.
MEANWHILE, “FAILURE FRANCISCO” ISREALLY DISCONTENT IN HIS JOB...
JUST LIKE HOW HE'S BEEN IN EVERY JOB.
He spends a lot of time daydreaming about all the other things he’d prefer to be doing instead.
Like opening a diving shop in the Caribbean.Writing a book. Or becoming a paramedic.
The problem is, he never makes it past thestarting block. Something (namely his fears and
subsequent mindset) always gets in his way.

Jeez! Why did [my blog post getnegative feedback/I get stiffed by mybusiness partner/everyone turn theirnose up at my idea]. I’ve always beenunlucky. No matter how hard I try, I
can't outwork bad luck.
Hell yeah, I decide how mylife looks! We live in a time
and place where it has neverbeen easier to make something
of yourself. So why not?
1

Ok, so maybe I’m the only personin the world (aside from my mom)
who liked my idea. Bummer. But I’ll just keep coming up with
better ideas until one sticks.Surely they can’t all be bad!
No one liked my idea. That mustmean I’m stupid. Oh no! I’m a stupidfailure and I should give up right now!I knew this was a waste of time andthat I wasn’t smart enough (ordeserved) this kind of success.
2
Business (just like life) is full ofups and downs. I use these
challenges as an opportunity tolearn and grow.
Arrrrgh, I must be so unlucky! Theysaid they liked my idea, but to comeback after I’ve developed it further. They just don’t get it. So there’s reallyno point. Plus, I have already sacrificedtoo many weekends on this.
3
GO FOR IT!
You only live once anda lifetime spent wondering
“what if” is a huge waste. If yourheart wants it, take the risk andgo for it! At the very least, you’llhave something interesting to
tell the grandkids!
?!!
Urg. What if I fail? People will probablymake fun of me, or talk about howfoolish I was behind my back. If you askme, both options sound about asappealing as poking my eyes out withchopsticks. Better wait for a betteropportunity.
4
ME MYSELF I
There are only 3 people in thisworld who are responsible formy success: Me, Myself & I. If Ikeep trying, eventually I’ll getsomewhere. Plus, I’ll learn so
many cool things along the way.
My parents, that high school teacherthat hated me, my ex-boss (the onewith the bad breath), Internet trolls andmy bank manager are allresponsible for past andfuture successes.[cue violins]
5
Failure is part of the process. In order to win some (especially
the ones with the biggestrewards), you often have to
lose many. It’s like adisportionate Yin and Yang.
Fa i lu r e !
Why do people keep mentioning theword “failure!” Stop it! Stop it! I don’twant to play anymore if failure needsto be part of the game! If you tell methat I’m guaranteed to succeed, I’llstart working on my project now…deal?
6
LEARN
Thank goodness I have so manysmart employees and a freakish
desire to keep learning – asthere’s ALWAYS room for growth.
I know everything there is know in myfield of work. Especially if I’m the boss!My employees know very little aboutthe work they do, that's why I am theboss and have to tell them what to doall the time. Now get back to work!
7
Even if I have the potential to bethe next Steve Jobs, unless I workmy butt off, it ain’t gonna happen
– even if I do have a natural talent.
BAR
I’m just one of those naturally talentedpeople who never has had to try. Thisworked out well for me in university.Besides, putting in extra effort justmakes you look like a chump. So I’msure someone will notice me and itwill all happen the way I want it to.
8
X
Successful people inspire thepants off of me to take risks andfollow my dreams. I take every
opportunity to learn from them.
FAILURE
GIVE UP NOW
UNLUCKY
It’s not fair that other people areso successful. Why do they have itall? I bet they had a better [fillin the blanks] than me. Too badI wasn't dealt a better hand inlife. [cue violins encore]
9
I deserve to be successful, wealthyand to see all my goals cometrue over the course of my lifeas a result of perseverance and
a desire to do good in the world.
I have dreams, hopes and desires. But Idon’t think I’m worthy, or that makingthem come true is even a possibility.Life is just what happens to you. Andthis isn’t part of my fate. So I might aswell watch TV to pass the days.
