BuiltWith analysed CMS’ market shares by websites’ audiences.

Wordpress is more mostly used by « small sites ». Whereas CMS like Drupal, whose market shares is bigger on the top 10k websites by number of visits.

After signs of deceleration in 2014, WordPress lost market shares for the first time in 2015.

Two proprietary CMS are fastly growing: Shopify (Ecommerce) Squarespace (Blog

oriented )

They gained 0,5 point passing the symbolic 1% market shares bar according to W3Techs.

Wix and Weebly clearly dominate, but Squarespace and Shopify, more e-commerce oriented, are rapidly growing.

The Ecommerce solutions market is more fragmented than the Blog oriented CMS.WooCommerce, the reference Ecommerce WordPress plugin, is the leader with 26,5% market share.

After signs of slowing in 2014, PHP lost market shares for the first time in 2015 according to W3Techs.

Java has recorded growth after years of decrease.The biggest growth goes to JS due to the emergence of frameworks like Node JS. Though JS market shares are still lower than 0,5%.

jQuery continues its impressive growth. About 70% of web sites use JQuery to simplify JS writing.

Bootstrap, HTML / CSS / jQuery main library, continues to dominate by passing the 10% market shares. Other librairies, less known, and more specialized, like Modernizr to detect HTML5 / CSS3 support, are also growing.

jQery’s is experiencing a decrease since 2013; whereas Bootstrap continues to gain popularity. Other JS librairies are far from reaching the leaders level of popularity.
