Trailer • A trailer is produced before the film is

released. It is after the filming is done and the editing of the film is in process. Short clips from the film that would attract viewers are put together. It is produced to create a sense of suspense amongst the audience and make them want to go see the film when it is released. They don’t give away much of the film’s plot.

Why are trailers important?

Trailers are a way of advertising the film and are released weeks or months before the film is released for public viewing. It is made of different sequence of films which has been chosen properly. They are made to make the public aware of what they should expect from the film and create curiosity amongst the audience.

The name of the previous films on the top to attract the audience of that film. Also suggests the genre of the film would be similar.

The poster has dark colours which is a connotation of horror genre. The boxes on the side make the poster look like a short film.

The text on the poster is in plain white.

The picture of the kids denotes that the story revolves around young children which conforms to the horror genre as children are usually targeted by evil spirits to take away their innocence.

At the bottom is all the extra information which is relevant to the film. The name of the producer, director or sometimes actors. It also has the age limit for the film.

Conventions• The trailer is made up of variety of different shots that

follow the rule of 180 degree. The use of close ups creates the scare factor in the audience.

• The trailer open with a long shot of an isolated house. The screen flashes in the first few seconds from the house to a family picture suggesting they are somehow related to the house.

• The time frame: after 9 months establishes the setting for the audience and allows them to see where the story is set.

• The music and soundtrack builds the tension in the environment and creates jump scare amongst the audience.
