The 1st panda update went into effect on 24 February, 2011.

The main aim of this new algorithm was reducing ranking for “low-quality websites” while increasing ranking for “quality websites”.

Panda update mostly affect the website having following issues:-

1. High percentage of duplicate content on website.2. Low or no quality inbound links to a page or website.3. High amount of irrelevant advertising on websites.4. Keyword stuffing on websites 5. Very low content on pages

Solution: Provide the Fresh Content to Google and stay away from Black Hat Tactics.

Google Penguin Update

Penguin focuses on spamdexing and link bombing.

Website with low quality links are affected negatively. So ensure that all links to your site come from quality & relevant websites.

You can also consider other ways like social media to bring traffic to your website.

This will ensure you that your site still has traffic in case it is affected by panda update.

Google Hummingbird Update

“Hummingbird” is the name of the new search platform that Google is using as of September 2013, the name comes from being “precise and fast” and is designed to better focus on the meaning behind the words.

Hummingbird is paying more attention to each word in a query, ensuring that the whole query or the whole sentence or conversation or meaning is taken into account, rather than particular words.

The goal is that pages matching the meaning do better, rather than pages matching just a few words.

Google Pigeon Update

Google Pigeon update provide more useful, relevant and accurate local search results that are tied more closely to traditional web search ranking signals.

The changes will be visible within the Google Maps search results and Google Web search results.

Currently this update is released in USA.

It does impact local search results rankings and some local businesses may notice an increase or decrease in web site referrals, leads and business from the change.

Google has not revealed percentage of queries impacted by this update but there is significant amount of change in local search results.
