WHAT IS HSU?

The HSU or Health Services Union is a specialist union of healthcare workers. The HSU has more than 50,000 members working in various sectors of healthcare management across Australia.

It includes health professionals as Doctors, radiographers, physiotherapists, administrative, clerical and support staff.

THE STORY BEHIND HEALTH SERVICES UNIONThe HSU officially came into existence in the year 1991. The Hospital Employees

Federation (HEF) and the Health & Research Employees Association (HREA) were combined together to form the HSU. HSU started as an organisation for health care professionals and hospital staff but today it has gone much farther. It now includes allied health workers in aged care, community health, ambulance facilities, food care & security as well. The health care professional union also covers workers in radiography, nuclear medicine, dietetics, laboratories, occupational therapy and drug and alcohol workers.

As a HSU member, health professionals get indemnity insurance and are also entitled to better pay and conditions.

Journey Insurance: The members are provided with Journey insurance that protects them on your way to and from work.

Insurance in case of death: In case of death of a HSU member, the family gets an immediate bereavement benefit of $10,000.

Ambulance Union: The number of ambulance in NSW has not increased to meet the demand or population growth in the last 10 years. The Health Services Union or HSU has a special campaign that is dedicated to increasing the paramedic numbers. The union has been fighting for the cause of boosting ambulance staffing in NSW.
