INTRODUCTION

• If we do not keep our mind active, our brain loses some of its functionalities as we age.

• This may lead to memory loss, brain fog and even Alzheimer’s.

• Well-stimulated brain elevates our mood and make us feel happy internally.

Structure & Functions of our brain

• Frontal lobes: Executive functions such as self-control, planning, reasoning, and abstract thought

• Primary sensory areas include the visual area of the occipital lobe, the auditory area in the temporal lobe, and the somatosensory area in the parietal lobe

• The cerebellum is responsible for the body's balance, posture, and the coordination of movement.

• The primary motor area occupies the rear portion of the frontal lobe, directly in front of the somatosensory area.

Some Brain- Boosting Activities

There are many activities which will keep our brain in top condition.

• Playing games that stimulate brain• Reading• Exercise• Meditation• Listening to music• Writing, painting• Food & supplements• Rest and sleep

PLAYING STIMULATING GAMES

Play games that challenge & stimulate your mind, such as:

• * Picture Puzzles* Strategy Games* Crossword Puzzles* Card Games* Deduction Games (such as Clue)* Visualization Puzzles* Optical Illusions

Playing SUDOKU was found to improve brain power, particularly in old people.

READING

•  Reading stimulates the brain as it activates your imagination

• Helps with memory retention and problem solving, especially if you're reading a mystery

• self-help books stimulate your brain by helping you to think for yourself, as well as find solutions in your mind.

EXERCISING

• Exercising helps circulate blood that carries oxygen to your brain

• Exercise over a long period is proven to increase brainpower and even create new neurons.

• Deep breathing for as little as 10 minutes daily delivers more oxygen to the brain and improves its functionality

• Walking allows you to clear your mind and thoughts. Not only is it good exercise for your body, walking gives your brain a chance to wander freely, clearing it of any troublesome thoughts.

• A New Powerful Three Minute Exercise Improves Memory and Brain Health

Powerful Three Minute Exercise

Paul Fassa (CBS News, Report http://homeopathyplus.com.au/hplus/...)

reported a simple 3-minute exercise which• Produced positive results for learning

disabled & autistic children as well as older Alzheimer’s victims

• Useful for any kind of brain fog or dullness, even emotional instability

• improve memory and focus, and even made some a little smarter

Paul Fassa Exercise

How to do It?• With your feet pointing straight ahead, spread them

apart about shoulder width • Grab your right earlobe with the thumb and finger of

your left hand. Cross over your left arm and do the same using your right hand on the left earlobe

• squat as fully as you can, breathing in. • Then breathe out as you stand. • Continue this motion repetitively while holding both

earlobes for three minutes. • start with one minute, then go up to 3 minutes.• This can be done by anyone at any age and should

be done on a daily basis

PAUL FASSA EXERCISE-2

How it works?• Los Angeles physician Dr. Eric Robins says that the

brain cells and neurons are energized with this simple exercise.

• Yale neurobiologist Dr. Eugenius Ang says that the earlobes are acupuncture points that stimulate neural pathways in the brain. The brain's hemispheres are in opposite sides of the earlobes. Using opposite hands for pinching the earlobes may have something to do with the way our subtle energies are arranged.

• EEG (electroencephalography) readings after doing this exercise indicate the right and left hemispheres of the brain had become synchronized.

MEDITATION

Stimulate your brain with meditation. During meditation, people typically rest in a quiet location and focus their mind on a particular thought or activity

• Meditation increases IQ• Relieves stress• Promotes a higher level of brain functioning• Stimulates the pre-frontal cortex, the area of the

brain, which is responsible for advanced thinking ability & performance

• Alleviates physical problems, like controlling pain and symptoms of chronic diseases

LISTENING TO MUSIC

• It is proven that listening to music strengthens the right hemisphere of the brain and changes its structure.

• People who listen to music are shown to be more emotionally intelligent than those who don't.

WRITING & PAINTING

• Writing articles, blogs, or journal entries improves memory and thought expression. It stimulates thought processes, which also enhances brain function.

• Painting is shown to be an effective brain booster. It sparks the creativity within you. Even if you've never tried painting before, give it a shot. You'll find that you feel more creative and may actually enjoy it.

• Draw a picture. Like painting, drawing stimulates the creative side of your brain. So get out some colored pencils and start boosting your brainpower.

FOOD & SUPPLEMENTS

• Starting the day out with a good breakfast has been proven to supply energy to the brain and body for the whole day. When you skip breakfast, you're missing out on a powerful edge, both physically and mentally.

• Drink a serving of pure fruit juice. Fruit juice contains nutrients that revitalize and refresh the brain. Juices to drink are pomegranate, blueberry, and cranberry as they deliver more focus and energy.

• Students who drink some caffeine before an exam typically have higher scores than those who don't. This is because caffeine stimulates activity in the brain, which produces better focus and thinking ability.

• Taking fish oil supplements is literally like membrane material for the brain. The two primary components in fish oil, DHA and EPA, strengthen the emotional center of the brain and boost focus.

REST & SLEEP

• Sleep clears out brain clutter and reduces brain fog. When you don't get enough sleep at night, your memory and normal brain function suffers.

• Staying up all night reduced students’ ability to cram new facts by nearly 40 %-Brain regions effectively shut down by sleep deprivation.

• After-lunch nap for an hour boosts learning ability.

Change Your Brain, Change Your Body

• In a recent book, Daniel G. Amen, M.D.States that a healthy brain is the key to a better body and a better life. Your brain is the command and control center for your body, and your brain function is directly related to how your body looks, feels, and functions. In this book Dr. Amen provides an approach to making positive changes, through treatments such as vitamin therapy, relaxation exercises, and physical activities, that will improve the way you look and feel

CONCLUSIONS

• You are characterized by your brain. Healthy functioning of your brain means a healthy you.

• Brain loses its functionality through ageing, accidents, or disease.

• We can improve the functionality of our brain through proper diet, exercises, and by keeping it active.
