Uses of Vitagon Injections

Vitagon (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Injection) is used for the induction of ovulation and pregnancy in the anovulatory, infertile woman in whom the cause of anovulation is secondary and not due to primary ovarian failure.In children affected by cryptorchidism it induces the maturation of the underdeveloped testicle, the growth of the too short spermatic cord and the descent of the testicle.It is also used for selected cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (hypogonadism secondary to a pituitary deficiency) in males.

Vitagon Injections (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) have to be stored at controlled room temperature i.e. from 20C to 25C (68F to 77F). Keep this as well as all other medicines away from children and pets.

Vitagon (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Injection) must only be administered after the age of sexual maturity, since administration before puberty could induce undesirable stimulation of the ovaries. Induction of androgen secretion by HCG may induce precocious puberty in pediatric patients treated for cryptorchidism.

Dosage

Females: Induction of ovulation and pregnancy in the anovulatory infertile woman in whom the cause of anovulation is secondary and not due to primary ovarian failure and who has been appropriately pretreated with FSH-containing preparations. 5,000 to 10,000 USP units one day following the last day of treatment with an FSH-containing preparation.

Prepubertal Cryptorchidism Not Due To Anatomical Obstruction: 4,000 USP units, 3 times weekly, for 2 to 3 weeks, or 1,000 USP units, 3 times weekly for 6 to 8 weeks. The HCG dosage schedule may change to some extent, depending upon the age when treatment is given.

Selected Cases Of Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism In Males: 4,000 to 5,000 USP units 3 times weekly for 6 to 8 weeks with a rest of period of 2 to 3 weeks between courses of therapy.

Contraindications

Vitagon is contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Human Chorionic Gonadotropin or any other component of this medication. Other contraindications include Precocious puberty, prostatic carcinoma or other androgen-dependent neoplasm.

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. An overdose of HCG is not expected to produce life-threatening symptoms.Call your doctor right away if you have any symptoms of OHSS: severe pelvic pain, swelling of the hands or legs, stomach pain and swelling, shortness of breath, weight gain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, and urinating less than normal.
