SpecificS• Describe exactly what you want to achieve in your career, what you want to do, by when do you want to

achieve it, how are you going to achieve it.

MeasurableM• Track your progress. How far are you from obtaining your goal, are you on track?

Action-orientedA• Say what and how you’re going to achieve your goal. (E.g. Study, Internship)

RealisticR• Are your goals realistic? (Obtaining a degree within 3 years is realistic, but becoming the CEO of Vodacom

within 3 years is probably less realistic)

Time-boundT• By when do you want to achieve these goals? If you don’t have a deadline for your goal, you’ll never

achieve it.
