Introduction

•The Americans made it a historical event, the Chinese thrived on its medical

properties and the Indian plainly consume it as an excuse to start a conversation.

•The origin of Tea is like a bag of mixed surprises.

Known as -

•Cha in Chinese,

•Chai in India.

•The ever-so-sacred brew came into existence through accident.

Origin

•A Chinese dictionary called the mark, dated

to the 3rd century BCE, records that an

infusion of some kind of leaf was used as early

as the Zhou Dynasty

•Discovered by the Chinese emperor and

herbalist Shennong in 2737 BCE

•The Chinese considered tea a vital drink in

terms of its medical qualities, that's why most

Chinese prefer it after meals as it is known to

help indigestion.

•While the eastern world has had access to tea

for nearly 4,500 years, it was only 400 years

ago that tea was actually introduced to the

west.

• Tea bags were invented in 1908

by a New York tea merchant

named Thomas Sullivan after he

sent tea samples to his customers

in a silk pouch and they didn't

know what to do with it. They

ended up dipping the pouch in the

cup. True story.

• During the Boston Tea Party, Bostonians dressedas Mohawks, dumped crates of British tea into theBritish harbour as a protest against Britishtaxation. They even stopped drinking tea as a signof patriotism
