Relax in the Hot Spring-fed Pools Due to the enthusiastic response to the June 21st 11th Annual Nature Fun Run Opening Day events (almost 3,000 in attendance) the town council has okayed a weekly micro-marathon schedule to last until “The frost is on the punkin,’” the new mayor quipped.

History This clothing optional, one kilometer contest originated in a bet between two town council members on who could (legally) bring the most visitors to Larkspur in one weekend. The two council members, Sharon Sharalike and Randy Allatime who co-founded the local micro brewery were reported to have arrived at the town council meeting in a state of what could only be termed as very vocal inebriation. The discussion about revenue options for the small town devolved into a shouting match concerning the relative abilities of the two drunks to enhance the tourist trade, thus precipitating the bet. After more debate the parameters of the bet were witnessed by all present and the now sobering contestants began wondering what they had got themselves into. The next day, in an uncanny twist of fate, Brian Woodruff, owner of the Wild Mountain Herb Company, while relaxing in one of the local hot springs with a gaggle of comely staff trainees was interrupted in his work by a less than happy husband of one of the trainees. The ensuing chase of the buck naked Woodruff by the shotgun wielding husband was witnessed by most of the small town as it proceeded down the main street, punctuated by the booming of the 12 gauge. Hearing the commotion, both Sharalike and

Activities

The festivities kicked off by the Annual Nature Fun Run typically include an open bar the first day and a permanent Beer Garden sponsored by the local micro brewery, the Moose Beer Factory. Wine tasting and cheese sampling as well as competitions involving huckleberry recipes are regular weekly activities for the adults. They can also spend their time relaxing in the heated pools, listening to the concerts, lectures or the random politician that bribes their way to the podium. The youngsters have their own swimming hole, moose rides, easy fish pond and the most popular activity, digging for gold. The digging for gold game is called Search for Buried Treasure.and can easily occupy kids (and some adults) for hours on end. Clues are given every day for the six hidden treasure chests valued at

Allatime ran outside their brewery to see what was happening. The flash of the naked Woodruff as he raced by brought a smile to Sharalike’s face, but Allatime was looking at the cheering townspeople as Woodruff made good his escape. The shining light of epiphany enveloped Allatime as he related to Sharalike his idea to bring visitors to Larkspur. A few days later, after meeting with Woodruff and the town council, The Annual Nature Fun Run was born.

more than $100 apiece. They are filled with chocolate moose, real licorice root candy, vouchers for all the other activities and a few real gold nuggets. No one knows for sure exactly where any of the wooden boxes are hidden because the people assigned to do the hiding are selected from the drunken crowd at the Beer Garden. Special awards have been given to kids who found last year’s treasure chests that were considered lost for good. Four such missing treasures still remain undiscovered somewhere in the “South Forty” the specially designated area for the game.
