DESCRIPTION: This elective is for students who are interested in a broader view of women’s health. The goal is to direct the students’ attention to issues in women’s health (such as barriers to access to care) by caring for women who have only episodic access (Urgent Care Clinic) or access through special categorical programs (Family Planning). The full range of ages of women, from reproductive through menopausal aged women, will be cared for. Students will have primary responsibility for the assessment of the patient and the development of management plans. DESCRIPTION: This course is a sub-internship in gynecologic oncology. It is a predominantly inpatient experience which focuses on the complex surgical and medical aspects of women with gynecologic cancer. A considerable amount of time is spent in the operating room and on pre and post-operative care.

DESCRIPTION: With changes in how health care is supplied and renewed educational focus on ambulatory care, many undergraduate students are not exposed to the complexities or the subtleties of Inpatient Gynecologic Care. This elective is specifically for the student who desires intense exposure to a busy operative Gynecologic Inpatient Service. Because of the high surgical volume and the patient mix at this world-renowned tertiary referral center, the student will have the opportunity to observe the full range of operative gynecologic procedures performed for the management of benign disease processes, as well as participate in the care of numerous patients under-going such procedures.
