Nurturing and learning with Autism

Autism is a condition which can be dealt by gaining understanding, awareness and

educating one’s own self about the associated symptoms, contributing factors, risk

and methods of caring for an autistic patient.

Autism is a neurobiological disorder that comprises of impaired social behaviour

coupled with difficulties in having verbal and non-verbal communication problems.

Other associated problems are fear of social gathering, repetitive behavioural actions

and the need to be alone. Due to the difficulty with the brain’s processing power, the

facial and sensory responses are delayed, leading to confusion, attention deficit

patterns and quite mistaken for anti-socialness. The cause and factor associated with

giving birth to an autistic child has not yet been found out, hence no definitive cure.

Genetic reasons may be the biggest culprit, and a small change in gene structure can

affect millions of cells in the body.

Methods to deal with Autism:

While identifying the symptoms at the earliest is the best thing that can be

discovered, the patient must be given the time, care and love that he/she deserves.

Many autistic centres are equipped with specialists and therapists. Motivational

workshops, therapy lessons and behavioural classes can help parents to teach and

cope with their kids. Education for autistic children must never be denied. The ways

and methods of delivery are quite different, and teachers must be qualified to train

special children.

Education for autistic children is mostly in the form of comic strip cartoons and

picture reading. Routine activities like open the book, or write test will be best

understood if accompanied by pictures. Perhaps movies and dramas are a good way

to nurture autistic children. Fancy colours and costumes will draw their attention,

and help refresh their minds.Though it is advisable not to show gory scenes or blood

In most autism cases, individuals are

found to have impaired communication

skills or abnormal behaviour. However,

these impairments may not complete.

Symptoms differ from patient to patient

and case to case. In some cases, a range of

autism symptoms or Autism Spectrum

Disorder, can affect the patient.

bath, as these children take time to process the information and may do harm than

good.

Care and love:

All’s well that ends well is a famous saying, and it goes well to say that a family that

loves and cares for its kids will grow a long way ahead. Even in the case of autism,

children need to be shown a lot of love and support. Patience is the most important

virtue. Be it raising the kid, educating them or teaching them basic skills, be patient

and reward your child’s improvement.

Whatever be the case, children are a blessing from God, and with his strength and

support, we can overcome all hardships. Love the autistic, and help them.
