WEMBLEY STADIUM TO

WEST HAM UNITED

JONJO’S WALK

Page 2: Jonjos Story-Presentation for school

My name is Jonjo and I am 9 years old. In February 2009 a sad thing happened

in my family. My nanny died from a disease called bowel cancer.

It made me very sad but I decided I wanted to do something to help stop

other people dying from the same disease.

One of my heroes is Bobby Moore. Bobby was captain of the England football team and also

West Ham United. Bobby was captain of England when the team won the Word Cup in

1966.

Bobby also died from bowel cancer.

When Bobby died his wife Stephanie started a charity called The Bobby Moore Fund. The charity helps to raise money

for scientists to find a cure for bowel cancer.

It also tells lots of people about the disease so that they know when to go to

the doctors to get better.

I talked to my mum and my dad. I decided that I really wanted to help The Bobby Moore

Fund.

I started to plan a very special fund raising event in memory of my nanny and Bobby.

This is my story.

Bobby played football at two main football stadiums.

I planned to walk from one stadium to the other.

This is a map of my walk

My walk would take me three days. Twenty three miles in total. It would be from one side

of London to the other.

I started my walk at the Bobby Moore statue outside Wembley Stadium on

Friday 25th February 2011

I was very lucky because Bobby’s wife Stephanie met me and so did Sir Trevor Brooking. On the first day I walked from

Wembley to Camden.

Page 9: Jonjos Story-Presentation for school

On day two I walked from Camden to Stratford. I went past The Olympic

Stadium on my way.

I was very tired when I got to Stratford

Page 10: Jonjos Story-Presentation for school

Day three of my walk was very special. I had lots of people walking with me. They all wanted to help me get more

money for my charity.

We all had buckets and we collected money along the way.

Page 11: Jonjos Story-Presentation for school

The finish line for my walk was the centre circle of West Ham United’s pitch. I finished in front of 36,000 football fans when West Ham played

Liverpool. This is me when I finished.

The player in the white is Steven Gerrard. He told me ‘Well done!”

I had lots of fun doing my charity walk and I have met lots of people that have helped me. So far I

have collected ……………

£37,500in money for medicine and research and raised

over

£1 million

in advertising telling people about bowel cancer

Page 13: Jonjos Story-Presentation for school

I really want to collect more and tell more people about The Bobby Moore Fund so I am doing my walk again in February 2012. I also do lots of other things to raise money for my

charity.

I am telling you my story because I have had lots of fun helping my charity and you can too. I really hope that my story will inspire

you to help me.

Here are some of the ways you can help:

• You can come and walk with me on my next walk and you can ask your family and friends to sponsor you

• You can raise money for my charity by thinking of your own way to raise money

•You can think of an idea to raise money with your school or class mates

I hope you enjoyed my story and I hope you can help me.

I have my own website that has lots of information about my walk and my charity. My website also has a booklet that you can print. The booklet has lots of fundraising

ideas to help you.

You can also register to walk with me look at the maps of my walk on my website.
