Society is obsessed with eliminating fats from our plates and bodies. A walk down the shopping aisle is strewn with comforting "guilt free" and "fat free" fast food, which is full of bad fatty acids.

Biscuits, soft drink, crisps, cakes are been changed into something supposedly "low fat".

The sad truth is it doesn't stop them from being a potential source of heart disease and cancers.

Despite the churning out of low-fat foods obesity, heart disease, hormone imbalances and chronic fatigue are rocketing.

On the flip side, not all fat affects us: in fact, good fats help manage your weight, combat fatigue, produce hormones that help us deal with the stress, enhance the libido and keep depression afar.

Cutting out fat isn't the answer - all it takes is getting clued up on which fats will promote health benefits:

Good fats you should look out for:

- Monosaturated: olives, avocados, hazelnuts and almonds.

- Polyunsaturated fats: fatty and oily fishes like salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerely and turbot.

Bad Fats you should cut out:

- Saturated fats: found in chicken skin, coconut oil, pies, sausages, bacon and cream.

- Trans fats: cookies, biscuits, popcorn, pre-packaged foods, chocolates, heating olive oils for stir fries andsauces, like ketchup.
