What will be covered today

Are there skills you can develop from home that can better help your family, community, employer or you develop a business?

How can social media help you land a job?

Are some forms of social media better than others in advocating for social justice?

Can you make money with social media?

Probably not all in this order

Can you make money with social media?

Easy answer yes! How? depends! If you are looking for a job to make money, this is the mail way most employers in cities are using to hire people. Many large companies will only look at your resume after you have gone through a huge online survey attached a cover letter and a resume or a link to your LinkedIn Profile.

If you are looking to make more money from a position your are already in by taking more training, improving your skills, yes!

If you have a current business, with an email and postal list that already know, like and trust you, yes!

If you are a non-profit event that usually only has a silent auction and you want to take it online and promote it to people who can't make it out to your event, but you know totally support your cause... yes!

If you have a product, some online skills and cash to spend on marketing.. probably!

And you can guess the lists of things I could say probably to... it will go on for a while..

If you are a business start up

Here is part of what you need to know:
( there is always more to know read and be very-very- curious...) Yes, you will need social media, ( yes, there are always exceptions to the rule )

But you MUST Have a strategy and some cash to put behind it or be ready to work hard to build relationships, willing to check messages like email and follow up, follow up, follow up..

By the 3rd quarter of 2016, Facebook has already reached 1.7+ billion monthly active users

LinkedIn 125 million ( and Slideshare which it also owns)

Twitter 320 million,

Instagram reached 500 million, Owned by Facebook

Pinterest 100 million average monthly active users.

And there are more stats I can go on about Youtube, Google+ apps and more.. Social media is not an opportunity your business can afford to miss, but you need a budget, you really must have a strategy, understanding of the technology, and understanding the platforms you are going to use and potential clients on that platform.. ie: Snapchat is not your best social media tool if you are looking for the over 45 crowd yet... ( but they used to say that about Facebook..)

BUT First...

Social media is first run by people.. it is social, it is opportunity for those that are curious, helpful and kind.

It is a place where social and business mix

It is a place where life long friendships are made and sometimes ended

If is a place people find their life partners and sometimes lose them because of poor communications

A place to buy, sell, trade and gift goods

It is a place that a business can build great trust over years and have an employee destroy it in seconds..

Facebook - Personal

Facebook has posted some great guidelines for teens, but I think it applies to everyone on all platforms https://www.facebook.com/safety/groups/teens/

Tips for teens

Don't share your password with anyone. Use Last Pass for securing and sharing passwords in a family.

Only accept friend requests from people who you know.

Don't post anything that you wouldn't want your parents, teachers or employer to see.

Be authentic. The real you is better than anything that you might pretend to be.

Learn about privacy settings and review them often.

Have a make sure you have set up Facebook Legacy contactwith teens and family members.

-Finding my daughter through her Facebook friends when she was a teenager when she was out to late ..
( also texting with her when she wouldn't talk to me I knew things would be ok)
