A Decade of Impact in Wayne County

The United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties advances the common good, creating opportunities for a better life for all in Wayne County by focusing on the building blocks of Education, Income and Health.

Thanks to your generosity, last year in Wayne County….

Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities received 116 direct hours of advocacy services from The Arc of NEPA.

50 families received assistance with emergency fuel and 8 families were helped with rent and food through Catholic Social Services.

104 individuals with special needs participated in pre-employment training, supported employment and transitioned to work withDevereux Pocono Center.

14 additional children had a safe after-school environment and improved their math & reading skills through Honesdale Communities That Care.

The Honesdale Fire Department purchased life-saving tools to improve their ability to protect the 15,000 residents living in their service area.

51 children in need received back-to-school clothing fromThe Salvation Army.

116 children received 878 hours of crisis and counseling services from Victims’ Intervention Program

280 Wallenpaupack Area 6th graders attended Junior Achievement’s BizTown and Finance Park for hands-on education on business, economics and free enterprise.

1,560 households in need were assisted with fresh fruits and vegetables from the Wayne County Food Pantry

34 seniors maintained their independence in their own homes with portable air conditioning units/heaters or mobilitysolutions through Wayne County Area Agency on Aging.

3,248 toddlers/preschoolersattended early literacy programs at the Wayne County Public Library.

1,969 toddlers/preschoolersenjoyed early literacy programs at child care and early learning centers through outreach from the Wayne County Public Library.

2,100 community memberscontinue to enjoy the benefits of the Wayne County YMCA with building improvements and safety enhancements.

175 Wayne County residents had their income taxes prepared for free through our VITA program.

38 households received emergency fuel/furnace repair during the cold winter months as part of the Gift of Warmth program.

65 families in Wayne County received help with pre-school tuition to helptheir children prepare for success.

120 youth received environmental education while 110 youth enjoyed Robotics programs through Educational Improvement Tax Credits.

2,745 claims were made in Wayne County through the FamilyWize Prescription Discount program with a savings of nearly $156,000.
