Effluent Treatment Plants

The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, it is mandatory for every industry to have proper effluent treatment facilities. According to Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, “The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act was enacted in 1974 to provide for the prevention and control of water pollution, and for the maintaining or restoring of wholesomeness of water in the country. The Act was amended in 1988.”

The concept of effluent treatment plant is very significant in a country like India, where there is lot of scope and to treat water coming out of residential complexes and industrial clusters. A number of Industrial areas, dominated by small and medium scale industries, have come up in the country over the years and effluent coming out of these facilities has been a major reason for degradation of country’s water resources.
