understand what they air and why they air it and who their target audience is.

Channel 5O Channel 5 is a television network that broadcasts in the United

Kingdom.O The station rebranded itself as ‘Five’ from 2002 to 2010.O The channel is a general entertainment channel, with internally

commissioned shows such as The Gadget Show and Fifth Gear appearing alongside numerous international programmes such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Neighbours and Home and Away.

O Currently well over 30 million UK viewers watch Channel 5 any given week tuning in for programming as diverse as the CSI franchise.

O Channel 5 includes;

Target AudienceO Channel 5's programming reaches a broad range of audiences;O Starting young with Milkshake! O For young children, the likes of The Gadget Show and blockbuster

moviesO For young adults, Home & Away and Neighbours appeal to womenO Europa League Football and Cricket coverage get strong viewing

shares among men. O In addition to these, shows such as The Hotel Inspector do

particularly well among upmarket (ABC1) audiences.O Its peak time is usually in the evening, coincidently when reality

and entertainment shows are aired.

Reality TV Shows on Channel 5 are usually broadcast in the evenings from 9PM

onwards.

The films shown indicate that the target audience for daytime films is mostly middle aged unemployed people. This is because films are usually around 1/3PM during the day.

Sports is a major interest for Channel 5. During big matches such as cricket and boxing, the audience figures are usually exceeded.

Demand 5 is the main source of on demand programs from Channel 5, 5* and 5USA. It offers a 7 day catch-up service as well as an archive of shows from the past

November 1982.O The channel was established to provide a fourth television service to the United Kingdom in

addition to the television licence-funded BBC's two services and the single commercial broadcasting network, ITV.
