The Killers and Read My Mind• The Killers are an American rock band from Las Vegas,

Nevada who have combined music styles from the 1980s and 1990s with modern synthetic music.

• Made up of Brandon Flowers (vocals, keyboards), Dave Keuning (guitar, vocals), Mark Stoermer (bass guitar, vocals) and Ronnie Vannucci Jr., (percussion, drums)

• Albums: Hot Fuss, Sam’s Town, Sawdust• Lead vocalist Brandon Flowers called "Read My Mind" the

best song he has ever written.• The video is largely unrelated to the song, and finds The

Killers in Tokyo, seemingly just having a good time and carrying out activities synonymous with the freedom of youth. These include riding different bicycles, namely a penny-farthing, recumbent bicycle, a lowrider bicycle, and a regular bicycle decorated with ram's horns, through the Tokyo streets. The band are also seen in a traditional arcade playing session GuitarFreaks and Drummania, playing with leaves in a Tokyo park with some Japanese school children, and interacting with Japanese children's TV character Gachapin. The various scenes are intercut with footage of Flowers singing in the middle of the city at a traffic interchange. The video ends with the four members of the band in a capsule hotel.

• The video premiered on February 8, 2007, on MTV's Total Request Live as part of their "Spankin' New Music Week." On the March 23, 2007 episode of VH1's Top 20 Countdown, "Read My Mind" was number one, making it the first time a Killers' video had reached that rank.

Read My Mind Lyrics

On the corner of main streetJust tryin' to keep it in lineYou say you wanna move on andYou say I'm falling behind

Can you read my mind? Can you read my mind?

I never really gave up onBreakin' out of this two-star townI got the green lightI got a little fightI'm gonna turn this thing around

Can you read my mind? Can you read my mind?

The good old days, the honest man;The restless heart, the Promised LandA subtle kiss that no one sees;A broken wrist and a big trapeze

Oh well I don't mind, you don't mindCause I don't shine if you don't shineBefore you go, can you read my mind?

It’s funny how you just break downWaitin' on some signI pull up to the front of your drivewayWith magic soakin' my spine

Can you read my mind? Can you read my mind?

The teenage queen, the loaded gun;The drop dead dream, the Chosen OneA southern drawl, a world unseen;A city wall and a trampoline

Oh well I don't mind, you don't mindCause I don't shine if you don't shineBefore you goTell me what you find when you read my mind

Slippin’ in my faith until I fallYou never returned that callWoman, open the door, don't let it stingI wanna breathe that fire again

She saidOh well I don't mind, you don't mindCause I don't shine if you don't shine

Put your back on mePut your back on mePut your back on me

The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sunWhen you read my mind

This moodboard depicts what ‘Read My Mind’ represents.

Audience Profile• The Killers are an indie/rock band whose music is based on British influences (the band is

often described as the "Best British band to have come out of America") and on the music of the 1980s.

• Influences include: Oasis, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, Dire Straits, David Bowie, The Smiths, Morrissey, Depeche Mode, U2, Queen, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Eagles, The Strokes, The Cars and Smashing Pumpkins.

• Judging by their music and the locations at which they play, The Killers typical audience profile would be late teens to mid 20s, predominantly male, due to the type of music, the image being portrayed and making notable appearances at festivals such as V Festival and Reading which are attended by similar people.

• My music video for ‘Read My Mind’ will be aimed at the lower age spectrum of the target audience, around ages 17-21 as the video will depict a break up and an attempt at redemption of a teenage couple, the process of which is common in this age range.

• Many Killers songs, especially ‘Read My Mind’ are not heavily rock oriented which means that the target audience will be wider as the song is more adaptable to different music genres and preferences, this is evident as the song was a success in the UK and US mainstream charts.
