SAJITH is a Cartoonist work-ing at The Financial Chronicle in New Delhi. “I’m accused of cutting people to their right size. In my defence, I would say I have done it with the finesse of a surgeon.A stranded Islander, I might come across to you, it’s the eternal angst and hyper myopia that sometimes make me look like an alien. But all the while, I’m piling up my karma points, to prepare for my afterlife as a seagull...” So no more explanation required!

SAJITH completed his Master degree in Communication & Journalism and wanted to become a Cartoonist! Before joining FC he has worked with The New Indian Express and Outlook Magazine.

I am sure, one day he will come up with an innovative Graphic Novel!

PICTURE PERFECT DELHI 2012 was a great success. It was Sheila Dikshit, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi and ace photographer Raghu Rai who took keen interest in judging the winners. Manvender Vashist baged the first prize (Rs. 100,000/-). Jyoti Kapoor, Gaurav Chhabra and Subhash Paul won the second prize (Rs, 75,000/). Art lovers gathered in huge numbers at the NSIC Exhibition

Grounds, Okhla Indus-trial Estate, New Delhi to experience the wonderful India Art Fair 2013.

At a time when the global economy, and the art market in particular, faces a challenging busi-ness environment, India Art Fair continues to focus on providing a bridge building platform to spread deeper awareness, and create wider access to art in India. The art fair included 103 exhibi-tors from 23 countries in the general exhibition area and solo projects. It has also included a video lounge, an art bookstore, art projects and a speak-ers’ Forum with over 40 eminent speakers.

IBM to build a smarter planet

It is a global conversation about how the planet is becom-ing smarter. By smarter, they mean that intelligence is being

Trillions of digital devices, connected through the Internet, are producing a vast ocean of data. And all this information—from the flow of markets to the pulse of societies—can be turned into knowledge because now we have the computational power and advanced analytics to

make sense of it. With this knowl-edge we can reduce costs, cut waste, and improve the efficiency, productivity and quality of every-thing from companies to cities. A year into this new era, the signs of a smarter planet are all around us. Smarter systems are being implemented and are creating value in every major industry, across every region in both the developed and developing worlds. This idea isn’t a metaphor, or a vision, or a proposal—it’s a rapidly emerging reality. In a study of 439 cities, for those that employ transportation conges-tion solutions—including ramp metering, signal coordition and incident management—travel

delays were reduced on average by more than 700,000 hours an-nually and nearly $15 million was saved by each. A yearlong study by the U.S. Department of En-ergy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory found that consum-ers within smart meter systems saved 10% on their power bills and cut their power usage by 15% during peak hours. Eight hospi-tals and 470 primary care clinics implementing smarter healthcare systems across their facilities—by making information available to practitioners at the point of care and applying insights into organi-zational performance—were able to improve clinical results and op-erational efficiency by up to 10%.

We are living in a time of turbulent change, putting pressure on businesses of all sizes and across all industries. The world is also changing, in other fundamental ways. It is becoming smaller, flatter and smarter.

The Hindu Lit For Life event was a grand success. And it was covered live by the students of the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai. They used CoveritLive’s EventStudio for the live webcasting. Also created a Twitter handle and a Facebook page to support the event. Event videos were uploaded through Youtube. It was a delightful experience to see the students of New Media at ACJ experimenting on a new medium. And they have made a mark on it. Well done guys and girls.

Never have I as a teacher felt so proud as I did today, time and again, when I was told, face to face, via email or on social media networks and text messages on my hand phone, that the New Media Students of Asian College of Journalism had done a mind-blowing job of liveblogging The Hindu Lit for Life.
