Concept

Our video will be narrative based. The artist is reminded of his previous relationship and his regrets leads him to travel to his ex-girlfriend’s house to get her back. Throughout his travelling the audience will also see his memories of the relationship, through to the break up, sparked by locations and images until he reaches her house. However the video will leave the audience unknowing the outcome of his journey.

The song itself seems to give the idea of living with regret after the singer’s relationship has ended and now he has realised what he’s missed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBumgq5yVrA

Genre

Target Audience: Indie videos often target teenagers to young adults. Although the lyrics/narrative within our video appeals more to females, as it surrounds the idea of relationships and love, it can still also appeal to males as the artist is male.

Our chosen song belongs to the indie/folk genre.

Influence Most of Passengers music videos are

solely based on performance, however within our music video we want to include narrative as well as performance.

The message of this song is also similar to ‘Let Her Go’ – it follows a couple, who have broken up, and uses the idea of re-visiting old memories from the relationship, sparked by things kept from different occasions.

Gabrielle Aplin – Panic Cord uses both narrative and performance.

Conventions Lyrics and visuals – The video will visually represent the

message in the lyrics through the narrative. Music and visuals – There will be a relationship between

the music and visuals through the editing of the video. As the pace of the song increases so will the editing and the narrative content.

Close-up – close ups will be used so that the artist can express emotion and connect with the audience.

Genre – We will follow typical conventions of the indie genre through how we dress the artist, the locations we use and the editing of the video.

Props/Locations Within the folk/indie genre almost all

videos focus on or include a performance of the song and therefore within our music video we will include instruments.

To follow the usual conventions of this genre we will use an acoustic guitar for the performance.

As indie is usually a small budget and niche audience genre they typically use fairly simple locations. They often use outside or everyday locations, often in order to use natural lighting.

Camerawork/Editing/Effects

Our video will use a variety of camera angles, shots and distances within the video in order to keep it interesting and connected with the audience.

For example use of point of view shots or over the shoulder shots will allow the audience to gain view from the performers perspective.

Indie videos typically don’t use many edited effects and transitions are often simple cuts, so our video will follow this convention using transitions for the video to flow well.
