Page | 3Paolo Nutini is a well astablished singer songwriter across the world. He had hitsingles with Jenny Dont be Hasty, Rewind and Pencil Full of Lead. However, one of his more populr songs received critisism for its simple music video. Thetrack peaked at 107 in the U.S billboard charts and only 21 in the UK singlescharts. Therefore, I am going to re-create a music video for this song to gainmore recognition for the artist and myself as video producer. 4. Page | 4The music video I am going to create follows the life of a male teenager whosseems to be going through some hard times. However, when he wakes up andslips into to his brand new pair of shoes, he becomes more confident withinhimself and is ready to take on the day. I dont want my video to be a reinactmentof the original but want it to relate to the song lyrics which may make somesimilarities between mine and the original. The video will start off in a black and white effect, this effect will continue untilhe puts on his new shoes. Similar to the effect used in the original Wizard of Ozfilm. This will accentuate the symbolism of the shoes in the video and will workas an intriging element for the audience. The video will include lots of mid shotsand close ups of the singer with his guitar. This will give of lots of the emotionportrated in the lyrics through the actors facial expressions and mannerisms.Contrasted to this, there will also be plenty of long panning shots of village andtown communities. This will give the video a well established sceneray and addto the context of the song.Target AudienceMy advert will be targeted at mainstreamers. This is partly because this categoryof people already enjoy and listen to this genre of music. However, as it is a very 5. Page | 5broard and popular category, it may be difficult to create something that appealsto everyone. The obvious way to tackle this problem is to follow the codes andconventions of existing music videos of this genre. In terms of psychographics, less popular musicsuch as classical may slot in the A or Bcategory of the SOC. But with more popularmainstream music, it would be hard toogeneralise the song to just one of thecategories. However, it would probably swayslightly more to the C2, D and E sections.CompetitorsWhen researching into competitors, I found plenty of similar British artists thathave found success through hit singles and award winning music videos. Threeartists that stood out as real competitors were Ben Howards, Jake Bugg andJames Morrison. Each of these artistss makes similar acoustic style music likePaolo Nutini, all using conventional style music videos. A lot of them includevarious shots of natural wooded areas and large landscapes (especially BenHowards). However my video will differ and contrast to these by using ruralsceneries and busy town cultures. 6. Page | 7Dave Emery is a well established camera operator who has worked on a numberof different areas within the industry. However, I was intrigued by his regularwork at top music festivals. These include; Glastonbury, Reading Festival, VFestival, Sonisphere and many more. His YouTube channel promotes videos hehas filmed: http://www.youtube.com/daveemerylimited - including one-shotmusic numbers on the jib for Alicia Keys, Robbie Williams and Rizzle Kicks.Lighting Piers Cox http://www.pierscox.com/Piers Cox has worked in several areas of television including a lot of music basedproductions. The price to hire him includes his equipment and travel. Hisprevious work includes live MTV shows, and various music videos. 8. Page | 8Actor Oliver MayerOliver is a young, local and well established actor. He has been in several theatreproductions, fringe music videos and adverts. He is a talented musician whichmakes him perfect for the role in the music video. He can also accompany theinstruments with a great singing voice, this will make the lip syncing in the videolook more natural. As he is willing to promote himself as an actor, he will do thevideo for free.My Responsibilities 9. This will mean I will be able to produce theit in the style I want, rather than explaining the ideas to someone else. As thesound picked up on the camera wont be used, I wont need to hire a soundoperator. However, I will be using a PA system for playback. I have decided touse this actor as I know him personally and know he work in a professionalmanner.Personnal RequirementsAll cast and crew members will be staying in the Red Lion hotel in Henley onThames.
