THE JOY OF HOT TUBS: IMPORTANT TIPS FOR CLEANING

Introduction• Few things in life are as relaxing as sitting in a hot tub on

a chilly fall or winter evening with a cold beer and a group of your closest friends.

• If you're a fan of hot tubs, you're probably already familiar with how great they can make you feel.

Introduction• However, an important part of owning a hot tub, and one

that many people unfortunately forget, is the cleaning and maintenance.

• To ensure that the water in your tub remains as clean and germ-free as possible, you will need to commit to doing regular cleanings.

• Depending on the type of hot tub that you have, this will probably need to happen at least once every three to four months.

1. Drain Your System• No matter what type of hot tub you own, the first step to

cleaning is to drain your tub of water. This process is also sometimes referred to as "purging" your tub.

• Before you begin, place a purging agent into the water.

• This is especially important if your hot tub has not been cleaned in some time, as it will help remove harmful bacteria from the lines.

1. Drain Your System• Adding the purging agent will clean everything out so that

you don't dirty the fresh water as soon as you turn on the jets.

• Before draining the tub, be sure to turn off the power to avoid risk of electrocution.

2. Clean The Inner Tub• Once your hot tub has been treated and drained, you can

begin the actual cleaning process.

• Your tools will be a soft sponge or cloth and a gentle cleaning agent, preferably one that does not create suds.

• Begin by wiping every surface on the inside of your tub. If your tub has seat cushions, be sure to remove and clean behind them, as they can trap filth.

2. Clean The Inner Tub• Also, devote extra attention to the area around the jets, as

this is another common place where mildew can build.

• After everything has been wiped clean, rinse away the cleaner with a hose.

• If necessary, you can also use a pressure washer, but keep it on the most gentle setting.

3. Clean the Protective Cover and Exterior• Another important part of your hot tub that you need to

maintain is the protective cover, which can prevent your tub from losing too much heat.

• Covers need to be replaced from time to time, so be sure to check for rips and other forms of damage while you are wiping it down.

• The cover, as well as the exterior cabinet, can be cleaned with a gentle spray cleaner and damp cloth.

4. Maintain Your Filters• Some hot tubs have filters that need to be cleaned and

maintained, but the process can vary greatly depending on the tub.

• While you are working on cleaning your tub, be sure to check your owner's manual and see if there is anything you need to do for your filters.

• Don't forget this step, as optimal filters may be required for a properly functioning tub.
