Horror Trailers. -Resident Evil: Retribution.-Wolf Creek.-Inside.

Page 2: Horror trailers

• The first trailer that caught my attention was Resident evil: RetributionAction. Horror. Sci-fi.

• The trailer appears to be a theatrical one in aspects of time but not the style of the clips and editing.

Trailer information: 2 minutes 32 seconds in length.Short shots.References made to the producing company and quotes made between cuts.Less narrative used.

I particularly like this trailers as it uses its best scenes without telling

the story or giving too much information on the character. It

allows you to be familiar with the roles of the characters but not

there storyline or motive. In my opinion the best bit of the trailer is

at the beginning with the element of surprise when the zombie enters into what was a

normal situation putting the audience into suspense. I would like to incorporate this into my own trailer on the basis of thrill

and surprise. Not much character information is given to the

audience and it is unclear what the storyline is or if there is any

conclusion. I personally do not like this type of trailer as it doesn't grip

my attention.

Wolf Creek. • http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416315/

Horror. Thriller. • Wolf creek appears to be a more of a teaser trailer due

to the following.

1 minute 49 seconds in length. Short clips and flashing images. Only the bests scenes shown with quotes used to interchange each cut. No character information given. No reference to producers or any other company's.

This film is very different from resident evil, this is due to the lighting and effects. In addition to this I prefer the lighting and effects with this film compared to resident evil, however in wolf creek I do not like the concept of the film. A convention that seems consistent between the two trailers is the use of quotes and narratives between cuts. This is something I would like to incorporate within my horror trailer which would be following the standard conventions expected within horror films. I particularly like the poster for wolf creek, in the regards of the pictures. The use of 3 faces to make up on image is something that really appeals to me as it showcases different characters within one picture. I also helps to show the different emotions expressed in the film. This poster therefore is a good reflection of the trailer. I do not think the quality of this trailer is high as it doesn't flow through each clip and only focuses on one part (the middle) no character information is given. However the general idea of the film is evident.

Inside.

• http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0856288/• Horror. ThrillerInside appears to be a teaser trailer.

Inside lasts 32 seconds in length. Lots of cuts and scenes. No storyline given or information on characters. No speech used or quotes.

Page 7: Horror trailers

This trailer has no narrative or speech within the clips, I personally think this makes the trailer less interesting. However I have chosen this trailer for inspiration, as the sound effects and editing are effective in making it look and sound more like a horror. In my opinion the colour effects used are appropriate for the genre and the loud noises are important for the shock factor. I would like to incorporate the sound effects with my trailer and I particularly like the animal sound at the end of the trailer. I would also like to take inspiration from the editing cuts between scenes in the aspect of editing and effects. In contrast to this I dislike this trailers for its lack of speech and narrative, this is something I will learn from and use speech in my trailer as it helps to target an audience. However this could also be positive as if I don't use speech it could target a wider range of people. There doesn't seem to be any plot to this film and minimal characters are shown. Therefore i would like to include all of my main characters within my trailer to inform the audience better.

Fertile ground.

• http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1515199/• Horror. • Theatrical trailer

2 minutes and 16 seconds in length. Aims to sell the release date and producers.Storyline evident and main characterinformation shown.

Page 9: Horror trailers

This trailer in my opinion is the best for showcasing the storyline, characters and producers. It includes horror sound effects and appropriate editing. The storyline of the trailer is like the horror trailer I would like to create. In the aspects of a romantic horror. I like the factor of using a couple that eventually turn against each other because of evil and paranormal happenings. I will take most inspiration from this trailer in the aspects of quotes characters, editing and the storyline. However the poster doesn't reflect the content in the trailer and this is something i would like to work together to reflect the story and target the appropriate audience.

Similarities and differences.

• All of the trailers I have identified are similar in showcasing the producers of the films. All of the trailers include horror editing e.g. Rustic effects, darkness, sound effects.

• However the Resident evil: retribution, trailer is noticeably different from the others in the respects of colour, it is considerably brighter than the others, and the sound effects aren't as loud and striking. The only horror aspect of the trailer is the inclusion of zombies. Therefore genre has to be taken into consideration as it is not only a horror, it is a sci-fi.
