1.Title- And Then There Were None (Episode 1)2.Director- Craig Viveros3.Format-Series4. Genre- Crime5.Narrative Structure-A linear narrative structure is used for this episode, I know that a linear narrative structure is used because the episode follows on in chronological order. As, when the people who were invited to Soldier Island were having their dinner and it shows the 10 soldier figures in the middle of table to represent the 10 people on the island. The following day when one of the male guests die as well as the maid, the woman notices that there are only 8 figures and that represents that there are only 8 people left. Meaning that the storyline will follow on until maybe all the figures on the table are gone showing that all the people on the island are dead. 6.Story Arc-Exposition(We are introduced to the main characters that will be involved in this drama and they have arrived on the island) Inciting Incident(2 victims die, the first victim who is Douglas Booth died by maybe getting his drink poisoned also the second victim who was the maid died of maybe getting murdered by her co-worker the butler and they all start question each other).

7. Technical elements/Compare and Contrast:• An extreme close up was used in the train scene where it shows a noose, but then when it zooms out it shows

that it was only part of a baggage. The extreme close up of the noose could imply that somebody may die later on, foreshadowing an event that may happen later on in the episode.

• This series is set in 1939 after WW1 and before WW2 started, and we know that this is set at this time as one of the guests has a background of serving in the war and by the language, props and costume that we see in this episode. And a realist narrative structure is used because it would be mostly appropriate to use rather than anti-realist because since it is based after WW1 it may not appeal to the audience that there are special effects that is used as it will affect the time period that it is set in.

• Non-Diegetic incidental sound is used throughout the episode, an example of where it is used is in the opening scene of the episode. The low ominous sound gives the episode a quite scary feeling, giving us the audience kept on our seat making us want to watch what will happen next and wondering what will happen. And this technique is normally used in horror movies to keep the audience entertained. This compares to Cyberbully where a low ominous sound is also used.

• Montage editing is also used in this episode where it shows the different characters that will be appearing in this series. Montage editing is used, to give a quick glimpse at the characters. This is a good idea because, it doesn't give too much information about them so that it won’t really ruin the storyline as this is a crime series and we don’t want too be given too much information as we may assume too quickly about the suspect.

• The scripting language used for this drama suited the nature of the drama, as they didn’t use any modern day words like what they would’ve in Cyberbully (BFF), it’s a good idea to stick to a time period that the drama was set in making it sound more realistically and so it wouldn’t put the audience off.

• I think this drama has been left with an open ending as there are more episodes to show who the murderer is.

Page 4: Drama evaluations

Close up of the noose which could imply death, but when zoomed out we can see that it’s a loose part of something maybe foreshadowing an event later on in the episode

Montage editing was used quite near the beginning to introduce the rest of the characters that will be involved in the episode, and each character was only shown for a several amount of seconds

1.Title- See No Evil: Moors Murders (Partial)2.Director- Christopher Menaul3.Format- Crime4. Genre- True Crime5.Narrative Structure- A linear narrative structure is used for this drama, I know that a linear narrative structure is used because the storyline follows on in chronological where it introduces to us the main characters and then it will follow onto them committing the murders.6.Story Arc-Exposition(We are shown the opening scene of the moors, then it shows the woman with a pram going to a location where she meets her friend and her husband. It then cuts to the four characters in a house hanging around having a conversation, then it shows the couple in their house and then they are all in the moors having a conversation).

Page 6: Drama evaluations

7. Technical elements/Compare and Contrast:• An establishing shot in the opening scene that shows the moors, this establishing shot of the moors could

imply that this location could be an important part of this drama as there maybe a lot of things could happen here. And was played along with the diegetic sound of the wind giving as well as low key lighting, making the scene look more eerie and uncomfortable to watch. And with the things we are shown, it could give a foreshadowing feeling that something may happen in that location.

• A low angle shot is used of the man in the office which is shown in the beginning of the drama, low angle shots show that the man is the more dominant one as they are looking down on the character. This shows to the audience that the man has more power and maybe they will portray this power throughout the drama.

• As this was set in the 1960’s, there was quite some poverty in them areas in the UK so the costume design used on certain showed the class of their status. As the man in the office was wearing a suit, to show that he was in a higher class compared to the woman she was talking to who was just wearing normal ordinary clothes and this could indicate that she was just in a slighter lower class than the man with the suit.

• Non-diegetic sound of upbeat pop music was used in the opening scene of the woman walking to a location, this non-diegetic sound juxtaposes the eerie feeling that was shown in the very opening scene of the establishing shot of the moors.

• The scripting language used suited the nature of the drama as it suited the way the different characters in the drama talked. Since the drama was based in Manchester, the characters talked with the local Manchester accent as well as the dialect they spoke(You could tell the class of the people by the way they spoke, which was that the middle class people talked casual, compared to the man who was Scottish who showed this through his accent and dialect).

• I have not watched the full drama, but since it’s based on a true story I think it will be left on a closed ending.

Page 7: Drama evaluations

An establishing shot of the moors was used to open out the scene and this could play an important location for the drama

A slight low angle was used of the man and this could show power and dominance as he is looking down on the baby and talking to the mother The way that the

woman was dressed compared to the man could signify their working class, the man in the suit could imply that he is in a higher class than the woman who is dressed quite casual

1.Title- Cyberbully2.Director- Ben Chanan3.Format- Single Drama4. Genre- Docu-Drama Thriller5.Narrative Structure- A linear narrative structure is used for this single drama because the storyline follows on in chronological order. As, in the beginning she sends a tweet from boyfriends account by having a hacker send her a link leading her to realise that the hacker was not who she expected. In the middle part of the storyline it leads onto the hacker blackmailing the girl. Then it all resolves at the end when she decides to just leave it all. 6.Story Arc- Exposition(Casey and Megan Skype each other and Megan tells Casey about the tweet that Casey’s ex-boyfriend tweeted), Inciting Incident(Casey starts talking to her friend and realises that it is someone else they were talking to who’s identity is unknown and that the unknown person has confidential information of Casey), Rising Action(Casey then realises that it was the hacker who sent the initial tweet and she then gets called a cyberbully), Crisis(Casey realises that Jennifer Li who was a person that she trolled online committed suicide after searching her on Google), Climax(The hacker commands Casey to confess that she is a cyberbully as well as taking her medication because if she doesn't the hacker leaks the confidential information of Casey), Falling Action(Casey realises that the language used by the hacker is similar to earlier tweets she seen “Har Har”) and Resolution(Casey tells the hacker that she doesn’t care anymore and shuts down anymore and opens the door shouts for the father).

Page 9: Drama evaluations

7. Technical elements/Compare and Contrast- • This drama uses the webcam footage from the computer, making it look like we the audience is sort of

seeing it from the hackers POV. The webcam footage that is used makes it feel more realistically as the quality of the footage wasn't really the best.

• This drama uses the diegetic sound of when Casey is typing as well as the computer bleeps also making it sound more realistically. We can also hear diegetic sound of the father and reminds us that he is there who can offer support to her especially at the thing she is experiencing. And the diegetic computerised hacker voice, which keeps the antagonist elusive and unknown which creates fear in Casey as well as the audience.

• This drama uses continuity editing throughout the drama, as the storyline is told in real time we know this because it is set during the day maybe after Casey has finished her education. And this is a good idea to use because, it is like what other teenagers maybe going through as this horrible situation may happen to them.

• This drama was set in Casey’s bedroom that contained low key lighting as most teenagers bedroom maybe like this, and this made it effective because if the situation that was happening to her happened to an everyday teenager they would be in their room as well like Casey because they wouldn't want their parents or siblings finding out that this horrible thing is happening to them.

• The scripting language used for this drama suited the nature of this drama, as they didn’t use words/phrases like what they did in And Then There Were None (“A handshake between gentlemen” in modern day time it would’ve sounded like “Put it there pal/bud” or something like that).

• I think this drama has been left on a closed ending because, it ends with Casey shutting the computer down showing that she doesn't’t care anymore about what the hacker will do with her private images and that.

Page 10: Drama evaluations

The webcam footage showing Casey makes the drama look more realistically, as if we’re watching it from the hackers POV

The computers footage again makes it looks more realistic, as if this is happening live or something

The birds eye view shows us that Casey is still in her bedroom dealing with her current situation

1.Title- This is England ‘90 (Partial episode 3)2.Director- Shane Meadows3.Format- Series4. Genre- Drama5.Narrative Structure- A linear narrative structure is used for this episode, as this episode will build on in the storyline where they discussed the topic about Combo being released from prison and maybe this happening will affect certain people. 6.Story Arc-Climax(Lol and Woody invite Kelly, Kelly’s mam, Milky, Shaun, a social worker and Trev to a dinner where they have quite a controversial topic and this is where it all gets heated up as there is lots of shouting and swearing and arguments as well as emotions).

Page 12: Drama evaluations

7. Technical elements/Compare and Contrast-• Slow motion editing was used near the end of the scene before it went into the advertisements, where Kelly was

packing her things as she was maybe running away. The effect of the slow motion gives that certain scene more emotion, along with the non diegetic sound of the piano and the violin that was played before Kelly was packing her things and gradually got louder which overlapped the talking in the dining room scene changing the sound perspective. As well as the low key lighting that was used, as Kelly walked into the tunnel near the ending of the scene slowly blacking out her face.

• Close ups of the different characters when they were having that tense conversation, showing their emotions maybe making us feel how the characters were feeling of how they were feeling while they were at the table along with quick cutaways as well. A slight high angle was being used in the dining room scene, and when we the audience see this it gives the scene more tension as we can see that the room is claustrophobic. Building the tension up more as the storyline progresses. The hand-held camera gave the scene more a realistically feeling.

• Diegetic sound was manly used in this episode, where they are all having a conversation around the table and as the storyline goes on and the dialogue quickens changing the pace of the edit where it started of slow then gradually quickens.

• The scripting language used for this episode suited the nature of the drama, since the characters were in the middle working class they used lots of profanity and the dialect used was just right as they talked in informal language (Man/dude).

• Most of the action happened in dining room, this links with Cyberbully as most of the time it was focused in Casey’s bedroom. The clothes the characters were wearing and the decorations and size of the rooms could suggest the working class of the characters which was casual, small and low cost furniture. Which is quite similar to rooms that were shown in See No Evil, and it contrasts to And Then There Were None which suggested that the owners of the house were high classed, this is shown by the size of the rooms in the house

Page 13: Drama evaluations

The establishing shot shown of the front room could imply the working class of the characters

The slight high angle shows us how small the room is creating tension as they are all squished around the table

The different close ups of the characters can show us the emotions they are feeling at that point

1.Title- The Missing (Episode 1)2.Director- Tom Shankland3.Format- Series4. Genre- Psychological mystery thriller crime5.Narrative Structure- A non-linear narrative structure is used for this episode, as it predominantly shows flashbacks of how it all began from how it all ended to the son being lost, and it would occasionally show scenes of the present. 6.Story Arc- Exposition(The flashback shows it from the very start where the family where going on vacation) and Inciting incident(The son goes missing while the father and the son where at the bar getting drinks due to France scoring at the World Cup at then all the people start celebrating and at this pint the son goes missing).

Page 15: Drama evaluations

1.Technical elements/Compare and Contrast-• A zoom out was used when the father was in the city looking for his son, showing how big the city is and maybe making

it quite impossible to look for the child. Making the audience wonder if they will eventually find the child considering the fact that the son was lost in that big city, and no one knows if the child could still be in that city or elsewhere. When the car broke down, which was shown quite near in the first flashback and they left the car, the camera focused on the picture that the child drew of the father and it closed up on it. This could be an important factor throughout the series, as when maybe the parents are looking for the child the picture could signify that fact that the child has been in that place.

• Non-diegetic sound of silence was used when the father was looking for his child when he went missing, giving the scene more emotion as the struggle and facial expressions of the father was shown clearly as we the audience can feel the distraught he is feeling at that moment of time. Because all parents would be feeling the same thing as he is, if their child went missing as well especially at that age and how innocent and vulnerable the child was.

• The episode consists of two time periods as well as two locations, which was France 2006 when the child went missing and 2014 when it shows that the father is still looking for the child and we know it’s 2014 as the detective has aged and he has a limp in his leg and the first time we met him he didn’t have this problem meaning the gap period something happened to him. We know that it is set in 2006 because it shows events of the World Cup happening on TV screens, also England 2014 when it shows the present time as it shows the mother has moved on as she has a different haircut and different husband who is the man she might while looking for the son who also had a son and we can see that the son has aged and grown up.

• Flashback editing is mainly used for this episode, as the first flashback casts to 8 years back when the child went missing and it would consistently show the present and the future, the flashback is used to give information to the audience about what happened at to give them information making them up to date of what has happened making them understand the storyline more. This links with And Then There Were None because, flashbacks were given to reveal certain information to the audience about what certain events.

Page 16: Drama evaluations

The camera stayed and closed up of this image for a few seconds, suggesting that this could be an important factor later on in the episodes

A zoom out was used to show how big the city is and make the audience wonder if he’ll every find his son in this city so big or even country

We can see that a flashback ahs been used as the mother’s appearance has changed showing that time has progressed

Page 17: Drama evaluations

1.Title- Breaking Bad (Episode 1)2.Director- Vince Gilligan 3.Format- Series4. Genre- Crime Drama Thriller5.Narrative Structure- A non-linear narrative structure was used for this episode, as it showed the ending of the scene at the beginning of the episode and a flashback was used to recall the story of how it lead to that event. 6.Story Arc- Exposition(We are introduced to Walter White and we shown that he works as a chemistry teacher as well in the car wash business, and we can see that he has a medical condition by his wife giving him vegetarian bacon and that he has to take medication), Inciting Incident(His medical condition worsens causing him to collapse), Rising Action(Walter joins his brother-in-law for a ride along to capture a meth lab and that’s where he discovers Jesse Pinkman a former student), Crisis(Walter and Jesse get into trouble with Jesse’s previous partner), Climax(Walter cooks a wrong formula causing a big explosion and making the bad guys pass out), Falling Action(Walter thinks the police is coming but it’s actually the ambulance) and Resolution(Walter collects his money and he and his wife work things out).

Page 18: Drama evaluations

7.Technical elements/Compare and Contrast-• The sound is distorted when the doctor is giving Walter news about his medical

condition, this could indicate that it is sad news for him so that’s why we the audience couldn’t hear it properly.

• An establishing shot was used to introduce the scene of the rocky areas, and maybe this is where all the action will happen later on in the story. Shallow focus was used when he was at the car wash scene, where he is contemplating of what is happening so far when he has been given the news that he has lung cancer. And the expression on his face shows us that he is worried about his life and health.

• Low key lighting was used when he is sitting on the chair thinking about things, then it juxtaposes to the next scene where high key lighting was used where he is on the ide along with his brother-in-law and this could indicate a new chapter in his life. All the things that are happening in his life is over and done with and he is ready for the next change. The low key lighting links with This is England ‘90 with the scene with Lucy going in the tunnel, the low key lighting represents bad moments/times/events in their life.

• Quick cuts was used when he was driving the RV, the quick cuts gives us thrill as it shows us the different things keeping us anticipated of what could happen next.

Page 19: Drama evaluations

Establishing shot was used to set the scene

Low/High key lighting which sets the mood of the scene
