We are going with a very unique yet typical horror style movie which means we need to use similar conventions found in an horror film. The shots, movement and angles will help us communicate with the audience, such as using a POV shot to show how a character is feeling or seeing.

Types of shotCamera shotsThe type of different camera shots in the film that we are doing would be very dynamic style. For instance, long distance shots would really suit the type of character we are presenting. This is which a dark sinister. We would use movements, shots from different angles in different situations.

Close up A close up shot is a shot where a certain object/person takes up most of the frame. We will use this shot to emphasis the reaction of the actors, when they are in a state if shock. For instance when the main protagonist speaks, we can use the close up shot to really show his psychotic state.

Medium shotA medium shot is a shot that shows maximum of two individuals in the scene, but in more detail while still giving an impression of the whole subject. In our film, we can use the medium shot to present the more tense scenes where there is a two individuals, or an on going conversation.

Long shotA long shot is a shot taken from a distance, example taking up almost the full frame height. In our film we are going to use long shot to represent the surroundings in the scene, however we will do this whilst a character in the scene.

The difference between the two shots are that In the medium shot it shows the waist and above. Whereas long shot shows the whole body from foot to head.

Low angle shot In the low angle shot it shows a much lower perspective on the character/object. This can be to show more power, or even authority in the frame. We can use this to show the power of the protagonist.

Hand held shotIn the handheld shot it shows the movement, and tracking of movement within the frame. A hand held shot will move/be unsteady. Often used with POV shots.

High angle shotIn this shot, the camera is facing down from a angle above. This can show an overpowering image on the character that’s been looked down upon.We can use this angle show the weakness of the characters, as the camera can be faced down coming from the perspective of the main antagonist.

Camera movementTracking - Tracking is a good movement to use in our film, as when the actors are running, walking, jumping etc. the camera ‘tracks’ this movement and shows pace in the frame.

Pan – Panning camera movement includes the camera moving horizontally left and right. This camera movement is really essential for fast paced shots, or simply a distribution shot. This is because it views the entire scene in the frame.

Zoom – Zoom is technically not a camera movement but a change in the lens focal length with gives the illusion of moving the camera closer or more further away. This shot/movement type is really good to emphasis on the facial expression/emotions etc.
