Sci-fiSci-fi Is a genre that is set in an alternate possible future or worlds, this differs from the fantasy genre because most of a sci-fi film is within scientific reason. Some characteristics involve:• Outer space travel• Characters that are non-human,

mutant or alien.• Futuristic possible technology like

flying cars and laser beams• Paranormal powers such as mind

reading and super human strength.

Blade runner shows us a world that is set in a possible future of the year 2019.Replicants, a non-human being manufactured by Tyrell corporation have travelled back to earth from an off world colony through space. Rick Deckard is seen to use flying cars to transport himself around the possible future scape of earth. When wrestling the replicants it is shown the replicants have superior strength and agility.

HorrorBlade Runner as Horror. Defined as an uncanny horror film as one “in which the source of horror is astounding but subject to ‘rational’ explanation, such as beings from outer space, science-made monsters, of a maniac” (McKee 80).

The film’s antagonist Roy Batty fits all of the aforementioned criteria: he escaped from an off-world colony; he is a android creation of the Tyrell Corporation; and he has developed a maniacal drive to outlive his generically encoded four year life span. Each of the Nexus Six fugitives exhibits a violent strength beyond that of the average human being.

Neo Future

Noir in the film Blade Runner can be described two ways of a mixture of both future and neo noir.

Using the conventions of noir but not sticking exclusively to it brings a feeling of the Noir Scene.Using Deckard as the films detective, he works a law enforcing job that straddles the both sides of the law with his job. Their is an air of pessimism amongst the dark down beat settings

Future noir is that of a neo noir film in a future or sci-fi setting. The Detective would be using technology that isn’t available to this day that could analyse emotions to detect if they are being lied to.

Blade Runner as Crime. Without the confirmation of a criminal past, the dirty work of being a “blade runner” who “retires” replicants seems to require its share of nefarious dealings. His rouse to get into Zhora’s dressing room indicates his willingness to use any ploy – legal or illegal to accomplish his goals.
