Frame 1

Classic James Bond opening. By seeing this, people are able to grasp what the genre of the film which is Action due to the fact that Bond is holding a gun towards the audience’s direction. This could denote that Bond is use to shooting people without hesitation. With the tight circle we get a tight and direct sight of Bond, it looks like an eyesight and makes the audience engaged as it makes them seem as they are the person being shot at.

This scene is a bit different than the usual James Bond opening as it is done as part of the action of the film. The tiled background use to be just a clear and white background however in this it is shot in the scene we were just left in. This just makes it so that it is not repetitive and really makes the audience feel like they are there staring straight at Bond as we see what the pervious character sees through their perspective.

Symbolic codes of grey and black colour scheme, denotes that the film will not be happy and joyful, it may be quite serious.

Frame 2

The suits that are seen in card games. This is associated with casino as this is where card games are frequently seen played at. It may suggest the theme or even the setting. It challenges the seriousness of the film that we see from them pervious frame as card games are usually fun.

‘Daniel Craig’ name is the only actors’ name to appear at the start of the title sequence. It is seen before the other actors’ names are seen which suggest that Daniel Craig is the main character and that the audience should acknowledge him as the film will mostly be set around him. This challenges the titling convention of a title sequence as the order of the actors’ name usually altogether so this suggest that Daniel Craig has the larger billing order.

Red colour denotes love and passion. This may have association with the theme of the film.

Frame 3The card suits are seen again to make different patterns. This suggest that playing cards may be important in this film. Also the title of the film shows ‘Casino Royale’ which links the card suits as casino royale is the place where the card game of Poker is played in. This implies that the film may have scene set in a casino.

The background is black which allows the audience to read the title clearly.

Frame 4

The spade card suit is taken and place into something that looks like a gun. This shows the link that poker and action will have in this film. This also may suggest that there is going to be some sort of shooting because of the game or at the casino.

By not using normal bullets and instead uses card suits could denote that the casino will not always be a place for just playing cards, there are other reason, more violent reasons why these characters are playing casino. The symbolic code of the gun denotes death which suggest that there will be death in this film at the casino and that poker is the reason that their death may have come.

Actors’ name which is seen later after seeing ‘Daniel Craig’, this suggest that their character is quite a main character but will not be centre around them throughout the film.

Frame 5

The Jack and Bond together, the denotation of royalty from the Jack. Bond has his gun ready to use which could denotes his duty is protecting some sort of royalty (Queen). Although we don’t know his duty, by just seeing the two juxtaposed to one another shows that there might be a link or that Bond is to protect something that is at high value.

Bond is in black, this make him seem mysterious or that the role in which he plays may be represented as something that is not seen as useful or important.

Frame 6

The spades are taking the place of bullets, this is noticeable as when the spade hits the animated character then it pierces through it and therefore resulting in them dismantling into little pieces, further suggesting that playing poker is leading people to their death.

The character is in red, this is associated with evil which suggest that he was a bad guy and therefore does not receive much sympathy from the audience. The enigma codes that is given out because we cannot see the facial details of the character makes the audience wonder who is this character?

As we cannot work out who this person is then it is possible to conclude that they are not a main character and does not have much to do with the film.

Frame 7

The symbolic codes of hearts spilling out of the shape when it is disjointed. The hearts could symbolise blood as it spills out like blood would when a wound is open. This frame is seen when the background soundtrack’s lyrics says ‘Through my veins’, this may denote that the shape is a vein which has been opened and rip apart allowing the hearts which is meant to represent blood, spill out like it usually would.

Hearts denotes life and love. This suggest that the life is being released, resulting in death.

Frame 8

The reticles that is seen roaming around the screen slowly has a graphic match into a Roulette wheel. This is another table game that is played at the casino. It expresses the point that violence will have a link to the casino which just solidifies that the film will have the setting of a casino in it and because it is seen in the title sequence suggest that the casino will play a very big factor within the film.

The enigma codes: What does the Roulette wheel have in connection with the reticle that is used for a scope of a gun?

Frame 9By just seeing the holes which looks like zeros, it reads ‘007’ which is Bond’s code number. The fact that it is seen on the card denotes that Bond will be involved in playing a card game in the film. As Bond is an agent who is usually seen shooting people, it creates enigma codes as we wonder why Bond will be playing such games? This will interest the audience to see the link or find the answer to their question later on in the film.

By seeing ‘007’ people are familiar with the link it has to James Bond (Primary Audience), in the title sequence, the title does not say ‘James Bond’ however if we see this code number then we know what it is usually associated and therefore know that it is a James Bond film.

The colour scheme is colourful and therefore links to the atmosphere that a casino creates. As casino have really bright and colourful colours it creates the feel of a casino and contrast the genre of the film. It may suggest that the film will not always be serious and focusing on action.
