Happy 40th Birthday! In 1972 Michael Twinn commissioned Pam Adams toillustrate a jigsaw for the rhyme ‘There was an Old Ladywho Swallowed a Fly’. He loved the illustration so muchthat he decided to turn it into a book, and this classictitle was born.

Over the past forty years, the Old Lady has remained a best seller. Those who read it as a child subsequentlybought it for their children and will be sure to buy it fortheir grandchildren. During this time the book has beenpublished in board book and big book formats, as well asthe original soft and hard cover, and has been recordedon audio CD. A collaboration between Child's Play andStorysack Ltd saw the book developed into a Storysack.

In 2006, Pam Adams illustrated a prequel to the book -‘There was an Old Lady who Swallowed the Sea’. Sadlythis was the last title that Pam worked on for Child’s Playas she passed away in 2010 at the age of 91.
