INDIAN RAILWAY HISTORY

It is one of the world's largest railway networks comprising 115,000 km (71,000 mi) of track over a route of 65,808 km (41,826 mi) and 7,112 stations.

The country's first railway, built by the Great Indian Peninsula Railway (GIPR), opened in 1853, between Bombay and Thane.

The core of the pressure for building Railways In India came from London. In 1848, there was not a single kilometer of railway line in India.
