Summary I often check the hints using the filter at AncestryDNA After checking hints I use the New filter to find new matches At Family Tree DNA I check for new matches by clicking the date At 23andMe I use the drop down menu to filter for newest matches At both AncestryDNA and Family Tree DNA I check for shared or common matches I search by name and location at 23andMe and AncestryDNA. At Family Tree DNA

you can only search by ancestral surname or matches name, not location. If a match has a tree you can you can search the tree by location

At AncestryDNA I look at the total number of shared cM’s to get and idea of how good the match is. At Family Tree DNA I’m more interested in the longest segment. If the segments, or segment, don’t add up to 10 cM’s I’m not very interested

At 23andMe and Family Tree DNA I take a look at shared segments in the chromosome browser, looking for areas where more than one match shares a segment

If I find a possible shared ancestor I record that in the notes. I also star the match at AncestryDNA
