2. Articles and Demonstratives

• A, an, and the are special adjectives called articles.

• A and an refer to any person, place, or thing. The refers to a particular person, place, or thing.

• This, that, these, and those are demonstrative adjectives. They tell which one.

3. Comparing with Adjectives

• Add –er to one-syllable adjectives to compare two.• Add –est to one-syllable adjectives to compare

more than two.• Use more and most, less and least, not –er and –

est with most longer adjectives.

• The adjectives good and bad have special forms for making comparisons.

• Use better and worse to compare two.• Use best and worst to compare more than two.

• A proper adjective is formed from a proper noun.• A proper adjective begins with a capital letter.
