EXPLORERSThe School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) at Arizona State University

is committed to a better understanding of our universe and, especially, our home world.

The combination of powerful new programs in lunar exploration,

astrobiology, geodynamics, robotics, sustainability and

high-performance computing, creates an environment that is contemporary, exciting, and rewarding.

Our extensive research portfolio includes field work on every continent on Earth; probes sent to the Moon, Mars, Venus, Mer-cury, and beyond; and ground-based and orbiting telescopes interrogating deep space. Ongoing research with national lab-oratories, government agencies (NASA, NSF, USGS), and pri-vate industry allows us to provide our students with valuable hands-on learning opportunities. SESE is the only school in the world offering this degree, which combines exposure to engineering disciplines with a broad geoscientific and astrophysical view of the universe to provide an integrated education across earth sciences, plan-etary sciences, astrophysics and engineering. This strong foundation will prepare students for key roles in space re-search and industry, environmental and geologic engineering, earth resources and exploration, and water and environmental use policy. Within this degree are four concentrations:

Earth and Space Exploration (B.S.)

Providing a foundational understanding of the evolution of the Earth system with an emphasis on the planetary context for sustainable human societies, graduates will be prepared for “green” careers in industry, consulting, education, government agencies and organizations.

Earth and Environmental Studies (B.A.)

While students develop a strong theoretical background, the program focuses on developing the requisite teaching knowledge and abilities to be a successful teacher of students in grades 7-12. This degree is offered in collaboration with the College of Education.
