The images in my artwork are inspired by shapes and patterns found in nature. Curves, spirals, ribbons of color and texture motivate me most. I prefer using recycled items, things with history, in my work. Stones and shells from my favorite places; hand crafted stained glass vibrant with color; strips of metal and leather all find their way into my work. My enjoyment is in the process of gathering, assembling and sharing. I love mosaic because each piece, each tessera, is touched as it is put in place, and then when it is grouted and polished, the mosaic is touched again as a whole entity.

Leslie Arouh worked for many years as a professional colorist and textile designer for the apparel industry in NYC. Starting out with a strong background in various printing and dyeing techniques, Leslie then went on to pursue her love of travel and ethnic textiles by creating her own line of innovative batik clothing in Bali, Indonesia. As a teaching artist, she has worked extensively with children of all ages at High Meadow School, the Woodstock Day School Summer Adventure, NJ State Teen Arts Festivals and various summer camps.
I talk up the value of the 3 Rs – reading, writing, and
relating the wonders of everyday life. We discuss my
first book, KIMCHI & CALAMARI, and I promote the power of writing to help
students discover their message in a bottle: what
they want to do and tell the world.

Born to teach, Ted was certified to teach chemistry, physics, and math after majoring in Electrical Engineering at the University of Vermont. Prior to completing his B.S., Ted started teaching mime, clowning, juggling, wire walking, and stilts to neighborhood kids during the summer. He graduated from the Ringling Clown College in ‘86, toured with the circus for two years, and was honored to return to Clown College in ‘94 as a member of their faculty.
Upon leaving the circus, Ted undertook a short-lived (5 year) classroom teaching career where he found himself teaching Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Physics, AP Physics, Algebra, and Physical Science in Maine, Connecticut, and Virginia. In each of these schools, while he was there, the students also had the opportunity of joining an extra-curricular Circus Club. Eventually and inevitably the melding of circus and science lead to the birth of Slapstick Science. Ted’s strength’s in circus skills are acrobatics, pass juggling, unicycling, wire work, and equilibristics, but anything that permits him to fly is worth trying. He unicycles about 6 miles per week, and loves skiing, rock climbing, and kayaking. His favorite color is abstract.
